Re: Besides salt water, what do you find causes rust the most?

The main culprit where I live is just the tropical humidity. I have pretty much stopped buying more tool steels because they rust in storage. Even steels like cruwear and zdp189. I have no plans to get rid of the tool steels I have because they work fine for me in daily use but I don’t want to have...

Re: Besides salt water, what do you find causes rust the most?

Any conditions that create a triple interface between water, iron, and oxygen. That's why mists and sprays and humidity work faster to create rust than simple immersion. Salts help speed this up.

Apparently my summer pockets are the ideal conditions....

Re: Ouchie! Ouchie!

we do know that certain common chemical compounds have a marked effect on pain perception of wounds - salt, for instance. Plus, blood and the circulatory system rely on iron compounds to both carry oxygen as well as signal various processes.

Ferric Chloride has been studied as a clotting agent...

Re: First high(ish) end knife purchase need advice.

If you've got mostly experience with lower-end steels, I'd advise nabbing a chaparral LW. The XHP steel isn't terrible to sharpen, and it's not a huge jump like going from 8Cr13Mov to Maxamet would be.

later, you could try out something like M390 in a sprint.

Re: Vanax PM2 Lets Do This!!!

if this happens, I do foresee it - either due to it being a sprint or just limited-availability production (similar to maxamet) - reaching heretofore unseen levels of secondary market pricing. If it comes in the configuration that the OP is looking for, i wouldn't be surprised to see $1k secondary. ...

Re: Clips - stainless vs titanium

a steel clip will resist bending much more than a titanium one, but where a titanium one will get completely bend, a steel clip will snap. depends on your use case. I find that deep carry clips are more vulnerable to snagging because of the 'loop' at the top, so for those, Titanium works well in my ...

I wanted to try the lock but would have preferred it in a bit more traditional design. I'll be watching the disco lists for sure.
exactly - i nabbed two Ouroboros then, hopefully I'll be able to get a similar deal.

Re: how are sales figures for the spyderco parata?

I'll be honest - it looks like a great design, but I'd need a discount to consider it over some of the other models that are on the horizon.

Thanks for the exhaustive comparisons! This looks very close to the Caribbean handle in terms of ergonomic neutrality. Exciting!

Here's hoping it sells well and we see S30v and Cruwear!
