Re: Backlocks and back spacers

same issue on the k390 Urban, but remedied usually by the end-user via a bit of sanding.

para 2.5? I like it, it's like a stretch made a baby with an urban.

Re: Spyderco Blade Centering and Trying to Be Zen About It

I used to be really really upset about knives that weren't properly centered.

Then I found larger flaws that bother me more.

Now, I'm still upset about centering, but it's a fairly easy fix (assuming you can disassemble the knife).

Re: Let's Talk About The Alcyone

As I get more into making custom scales, I'm rather interested in picking this up. BD1 has a nice sharpening and use feel, almost creamy in my experience.

Re: H1 Steel Differential Hardness: What is the Molecular Mechanism?

The high nickel content in H1 acts as an austenite stabilizer. The lower nickel content in lc200n probably contributes to its martensitic nature - it can be conventionally heat treated, and this means the bulk of the material is martensite.

Re: H1 Steel Differential Hardness: What is the Molecular Mechanism?

I recently did some literature review of nitrogen stainless steels, as I was curious about the mechanisms leading to its corrosion resistance. H1 is one of these. There's a lot about Fermi surface state density calculations in some of the early 2000s papers, but what that boils down to is this: Both...

Re: How did you develop your preferences?

Good topic! Growing up I had a SAK my dad gave me, and I ended up doing a lot of carving. Still, I had that thing threaten to close on me a number of times, so "cut away from yourself" discipline was something I took very seriously. I kept it sharp on my dad's stones, but I still threw it at the odd...

Re: Have you ever passed on the chance to buy a grail?

I also look at my collection and think "wellllll, do you want this for a unique purpose or not?"

Practicality (will I use it? do I need a duplicate?) is sometimes a useful argument. Helped me not get a Szabo, but it won't stop me from getting a Techno 2...

Re: Have you ever passed on the chance to buy a grail?

I didn't get into Spyderco knives until after many of the ones that I really love had already been discontinued.

I console myself by saying "it didn't have super steel, at least nowadays you have a cornucopia of CPM, don't feel bad"
