Re: What ever happened to Elmax

Yes :D all the "S (number) V" blurs together for the common man. Something like "Elmax" stands out so must be better :p As I said in the other thread, what Elmax has over other steels is a cooler name. You gotta admit a Elmax just has a cool sound to it. Elmax sounds like the name of a prison that ...

Re: Sal, Can we get CPM 15v?

Shawn is there any chance of DLC landing on this collaboration? My experience with 10v (PMA11) it does need maintenance, so I'm assuming 15v will be more so.... I'm eager either way just hint fishing ;) DLC didn't seem to prevent rust which is interesting. Also it seems that DLC is difficult to get...

Re: Sal, Can we get CPM 15v?

Well, stropped back like a champ after 100 cuts on 3/4 Manilla rope.

1um diamond Spray on leather.

Start 139g>>>288g BESS after 100 cuts with 7-8 slice per each cut using the belly of the blade.

8 passes on strop to 142g BESS.

Nice sticky aggressive edge.

Re: Sal, Can we get CPM 15v?

I feel that pure strength overrides raw toughness in edge performance focused knives. The K390 is some good stuff, I have a PM2 k390 in my pocket right now, my favorite spyder of 2019. It will be nice to see some 10v hopefully in 2020. All the A11 class steels are at a really cool sweet spot between...

Re: What ever happened to Elmax

*JDavis paid everyone back and apologized. *ZT had problems at first but figured it out. *Zt switched to S35VN for cost of importing, material cost and availability being the biggest reason, not Elmax being tarnished from reviewers and HT. *Elmax was hyped as the toughest PM stainless, however due t...

Re: Sal, Can we get CPM 15v?

I made another custom CPM 15v at 65.5rc
I was able to outcut s125v at 63rc and Maxamet at 70rc that had thinner Geometry
But was unable to match Rex121 at 70rc.
The test was with 3/4in Manilla rope.

The CPM 15V was tested with a thicker bte to mimic production geometries.

And it was a honest, straight to the point simple answer. I could type a wall of text but that was the cliff notes version. Perhaps better as something to experience first hand by you is the better route rather than death by wall of text. It visually looks the same. What was the point? I was expecti...

I was expecting something more noticeable like the reground Nirvana.
It has a very detailed custom HT and is stronger and more stable now.

But...........no public pics until we're within 6 months of production. I'll need to know if you would like any ad...

Re: Why the lack of Elmax options -- are any on the horizon?

Elmax got a bad name early on kind of like S30V did. There is quite a bit of drama around the whole ordeal and some of the myths/lies that were circulated then still persist today. It was ZTs go to steel and I think they moved away from it partly due to consumer perception. Now it has been passed o...

Re: Why the lack of Elmax options -- are any on the horizon?

Elmax got a bad reputation early on in its time in the community due to some issues with a sub-par heat treat from another company, so I've heard a few makers say explicitly that they've steered clear of it from a public perception standpoint. This is silly, but given how much of 'super steel' is m...
