I'm wondering who this "Lack of Interest" guy is for whom the original topic was removed.

Re: Best steel for sharp edges

I am pretty much "odd man out" here I believe. I have no need for corrosion resistance, and as for my blades, I much prefer a good non-stainless steel like PMA11, K-390, and Maxamet, those being my current favorites. I fully appreciate that others have their own preferences and reasons for them, an...

Re: Best steel for sharp edges

So my take on this is that the Sharpmaker is about a $50 system that is probably the best bang for the buck at that price range by a long shot. But if you up the ante to $200 or so you can decide if you want the KME or Edge Pro or who knows what else and up your game. And if you are a real edge jun...

Re: Best steel for sharp edges

For me I feel it comes down to sharpening equipment. Well, this is another angle on things (and I realize that I didn't just ask one question, but raised a cloud of related topics). I have wondered if improving my sharpening equipment and/or skills would get me where I think I want to get. I don't ...

Re: Best steel for sharp edges

I was going to offer my experiences and preferences for what have become my own favorite steels for sharpness and edge holding, but seeing that so many like VG-10, and I absolutely do not, I will refrain from causing any conflict here. I wish you well in your endeavors regarding the topic. :) Dave ...

I wanna be a Corporate Shill. Something I have not yet experienced in my life.

Re: Things wot I painted

I think that's a really good hobby and a great way to relax and enjoy some creativity. Back in the 50's I enjoyed collecting and painting American civil war miniatures from both sides of the conflict and even received some recognition for my efforts. It appears the troops are a bit different in appe...

Re: Is a G10 Maxamet Manix 2 in the plans?

If all other dimensions were unchanged, I wonder how thin behind the edge sal would dare grind a .125" Manix? Could be quite interesting. Anything else ever been that "tall" yet thin before? Interesting for sure! Lock strength along with laser-like cutting efficiency. I'd like to experience a blade...

Re: Is a G10 Maxamet Manix 2 in the plans?

I totally get the spine thickness/lock strength concern. I want a secure, dependable lock, just like everyone else but I use my knives for their intended use as cutting tools. I don't do "spine whacks" or stunts like opening tin cans or other exhibitions to "test" the strength of a blade lock. I jus...

Re: Is a G10 Maxamet Manix 2 in the plans?

I certainly hope we will see a Manix 2 in G-10 with liners, and stone finished Maxamet blade of .125" thickness. I like the LW version well enough but I would prefer the G-10 with liners. I hope we might see this in either a Sprint Run or a Dealer Special, if not as a catalog item. The .145" thick b...

Re: Chaparral dissassembly

These photos are not mine, and I've never taken a Chaparral apart myself, so there's not much I can add beyond the obvious observations that, unlike most Spyderco midlocks, the lockbar pivot screw and one of the backspacer screws are hidden under the scales and that there's a stop pin in the blade ...

Re: Ultimate Edge Retention: Spyderedge vs Plain Edge

Even with all the "scientific facts" and personal opinions in favor of the SE, I still won't have a knife with a SE blade. I just don't like them, never have and never will. I prefer a plain edge blade of high performance non-stainless tool steel and I like to maintain that blade insanely sharp. For...

I am happy to see that the Police 4 and K390 blade steel at .118" thickness is showing up. I have been very interested in this one.
