Re: Suggestions for new EDC items?

I always carry one to back up my leatherman tool . i can't really work on much with just a multitool, I try always back mine up with a good multifunction one piece ...

Re: Suggestions for new EDC items?

Vintage Sheaffer Imperial cartridge (or vac fill) fountain pen! These can be had off ebay for under $50 and spank most $50 modern pens as far as both writing feel and outright trouble-free utility. I spent a long time on ebay searching pens a month or two ago. I'm afraid my problem is I am not acco...

Re: ROzzOr straight razor...

Here you go... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v727/zackerty/Rozzor%20end.jpg Thanks for the photo. Looks really neat. I know the grinding struggle. I only have done freehand, and it kills me when I get a clean grind on presentation side, then when grinding the back, I am not as clean and end up ...

Re: ROzzOr straight razor...

It turned out to be a multi purpose design, as one of my martial friends exclaimed..." A Combat Razor! " :) As a "true" razor, it might not fit the bill, but as a unique design to stretch my skills, it will do... :) I have shaved with it, and whilst the edge angle was not as acute as a proper razor...

Re: Suggestions for new EDC items?

Multi tools, I really really try to advocate the Victorinox Spirit. I am extremely picky about multi tools and I have come to love this one. There aren't many things I would improve on if I could (sharper tool bits, as in sharper edges on the screwdrivers etc, and a better quality blade steel, but ...

Re: ROzzOr straight razor...

As to sharpening, I'n not sure this would be suitable as a straight razor. You mention that it could be sharpened on a sharpmaker. From what I understand, straight razors should have less than 40 degrees inclusive. Additionally, Im not sure any of the spyderco stones are suitable for straight razor ...

Re: Suggestions for new EDC items?

One of the things I especially like about the copper Maratac lights is how smooth the screw threads operate compared to Ti or SS. I have owned all three and prefer the copper hands down. I hope you enjoy your cu Maratac as much as I like mine. :) I am sure I will. Won't be to me for the next 30 day...

Straight and DE. I would say DE 3/4 of the time just for convenience.

Re: Suggestions for new EDC items?

Just got the email from Massdrop that they have the Copper Maratac again. Looks like it will be $47. Not sure how it would be better than your Ti3 though... THANK YOU! just saved me maybe $20 or so. It is not going to be better than my Ti3 much/at all. Its more that I get tired of black-coated stee...

Re: Suggestions for new EDC items?

Picked up the AAA Cu Maratac a few months back, great little light and patina is coming along nicely. I've been carrying the Fellhoelter Ti Bolt for a couple years now, sticker shock lasted for a bit but after carrying it every day I can say it was money well spent, what a bullet proof pen and with...

Re: Suggestions for new EDC items?

I have one of these driver bits on my keychain and its been an incredible convenience when I'm already in some contorted position under a desk or dash and don't have a phillips in reach: http://www.bigidesign.com/welcome/titanium-pocket-bit/ Ti3 is a great light, but I prefer single modes and carry...

Suggestions for new EDC items?

So, I am working on compiling a list of EDC items that I would like to either buy myself as a celebration for finals, or to get for my birthday next month. Would love suggestions on any of the below. Knives: I currently have some 60 knives, and am working on making myself several more customs right ...

Re: Poll: Solid back-spacers vs. stand-offs

Both are just fine if designed well. Both can be terrible if designed poorly. I have a slight leaning towards standoffs, but my Caly 3 SB is my favorite knife and is backlock/spacer design. I think spacer design can be worse, because it is an area where any sloppy quality control or craftsmanship ca...

Re: Scissors/Shears question for everyone

Thank you! You have helped my understanding on this. Yes I am extremely interested in how H1 would function over a long period of time due to the work-hardening aspect, and, it would do well in a barber shop/hair styling environment with moisture on hair and constant use of cleaning fluids. I am al...

Re: Blade Steel Verification Test?

So, I could send it to Crucible (for example) and just ask them to verify that it's real s35vn? I understand that it might be expensive to have them do that, but I'm still wondering if that's possible. Better information on the specifics here: http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=329943 http:...

Re: Blade Steel Verification Test?

My guess is it is cost prohibitive to test. Best cheap solution would be to send it to a professional sharpener and find out if it sharpens like the claimed steel, and use it and find out if it holds an edge like the claimed steel. That wouldn't give you an exact composition, but it should tell the ...

I had been using lighter fluid to clean stones (no clue if this is a good practice). I always keep BKF on hand, and never thought to use it. What an awesome idea. thanks

Re: Scissors/Shears question for everyone

I could be wrong, but after examining various sewing scissors and hair shears, it seems that a "good" scissors steel would be castable, and also very stain resistant. I also think that it is likely scissors would be at a lower RC for toughness over edge retention. Because of the pinching action of s...
