Re: Sal, any chance for new CBN/Diamond rods?

[...] I also wish that Spyderco would come up with a coarse or extra coarse stone for the 204 Sharpmaker for rapid stock removal. I used to be not very interested in that until I recently used example of brazed synthetic mono-diamond abrasives in ultra low grits. These are very different from what ...

Re: Why Broad Blades?

I prefer a broader blade for another reason. For me, my pocketknife is my go to tool. Have you ever tried to make a sandwich and apply mayonnaise, jelly, peanut butter, or tuna salad to bread? One time I decided to try carrying a traditional slip joint and needed to make a sandwich at work, I immed...

Re: Re-Educating a Long-Time Knife Knut

I'd say the thing that all these "new" steels have in common which makes them special is that they are in Spyderco knives! :D but seriously... *My* current take on the new crop of high-end steels is that they are very cool to try, but none have really blown me away with their characteristics the way...

Re: Help sharpening dragonfly 2 zdp 189

The good news is that the Dragonfly is small enough that reprofiling the edge doesn't take long even with a hard steel like ZDP... If you can find a small coarse or medium grit diamond stone to start your progression with that would probably be a better investment than a larger "basic" coarse stone,...

Re: Why Broad Blades?

the three posts above this support each other; given a blade will have a certain acceptable spine thickness and need to structurally support the Spyder hole as well as have a useful bevel angle, a tall blade profile is the obvious solution. If you look at the Jester, Stretch or Worker, you will see ...

Ya know something David......I had no idea I NEEEEEDED a Sage until you piped up about it! I saw you didn't act on the one on BF......it'll be here Wednesday. Ugh See, SAD (Spyderco Acquisition Disorder) *is* contagious! the one you grabbed off BF looked great too, but I would have had to recover m...

Re: I just need a little push...

well, it's done... nice clean used one off ebay, good ending price, great pics and perfect seller feedback, so I have confidence that it'll be a good one. As a bonus my CC reward points got me a Sharpmaker! I have lots of stones and have sharpened freehand since I was in grade school, but for "free"...

Re: High end UKPK comparisons

huh, I'd rate my Ti as *much* smoother and more positive than the split spring FRN knife that I have... not that the FRN one is lousy mind you, just that the Titanium one is as good as it gets.

Re: High end UKPK comparisons

I wrote a little summary on this before. There are a few things going on. The G-10 versions seemed to have more friction in the pivot area that helped hold them open. The rigidity of the scales affects the open strength. I think the combination of these two not working with the FRN made it so that ...

Re: Fakes on Flea Bay

Viterchen2011 is a merchant on ebay who is selling Spyderco fakes, however he does not ID them as Spydercos, however in a lot of the pics there is the distinctive Red and Black Spyderco box in the background, I hope this is not redundant. BTW he also had a Microtech fake that he had the nerve to ca...

Re: Sage 1 with compression lock

Hi Sal,

Neeley was cool but awkward... I've used it as a mechanical IQ test on friends, the ones with good spatial skills figure it out pretty quickly, others have failed to close it without being shown the "trick".

Re: Spyderco 2015 Lists: Delivered & Upcoming

Chaparral Blue Stepped Titanium will be in stock next week at some Spyderco dealers. With MSRP at $564.95 I may have to wait a few months for this must have. http://www.spyderco.com/pix/products/large/C152STIBL_L.jpg D**n, I need to apply for a financial grant to support my knife lust/addiction!

Re: Smaller PM2?

They are supposedly in the works, schedule unknown. There is the Sage series though which seems like a pretty good option if you want smaller. Just to clarify, there is a Sage (5?) slated for production with the compression lock? Any idea when? I assumed that the Sage project would find its way aro...

Re: High end UKPK comparisons

I always thought that it was too weak. Yeah, it operates okay if you keep your finger in the choil, but it doesn't hold enough to do much without your finger there. I totally understand why the tension is set the way it is though, if the spring was as firm as the one in the Ti version, then the tan...

Re: I just need a little push...

I have had my eye on the Bradley, but I imagine that it has the same size in-pocket as a Stretch, which is a bit too big for my everyday regimen. The Schempp is very intriguing, but I'm not sure about the profile and it's also just a bit on the big side. The GB Air in your pic. is definitely on the ...

I kinda dig the CF scale texture though.

The stepped Ti Chap would really do it for me, but again with the overspending problem :(

I just need a little push...

So, if I love my Sage 3 and my Chaparral, it's a no-brainer that I need a Sage 1 right?

Help me out people, I'm feeling like I've overspent on knives a lot lately, but the Sage is calling to me!
