Re: A change in tone

I agree. That's why I offered to continue with Cliff via PM if he desires, but not here. I think this topic has wobbled too far afield. As I hope I've said, my preference is for civil and interesting discussions based generally on Spyderco, the company and their products. If I wander too far afield ...

Re: Fool me once... well, not even once

Looks like a party. November... cool party in more ways than one. I'll be seventy-three in November, so I might not be all that fired up about spending the night camped out by the door. Of course, some single malt, good sleeping bag and a portable heater might help. Really, though, looks like a real...

Re: A change in tone

Belief is the acceptance of a thing without evidence for it. We have to be careful here because there are many definitions for terms. Theory can be used to mean a loose guess, but that isn't what is meant when someone describes evolutionary theory. In the philosophy of knowledge a belief is just a ...

Re: Fool me once... well, not even once

Not to dissuade you from visiting the SFO, but as everyone mentioned there are plenty of dealers you don't have to worry about. I have a bookmarks folder with 31 sites (if I can count) that you won't have to worry at all about buying from. Pricing varies from site to site and knife to knife, so I l...

Welcome to the forum Michael and thank you for your military service. God bless you and please feel welcome, you have made excellent posts. You are welcome. Those were eight years I will never regret. And, thanks for your comment on my posts. I want to be a contributing member and add to the forum'...

Re: A change in tone

Belief is the acceptance of a thing without evidence for it. Everyone is entitled to their beliefs. Only when something is claimed to be real, in the sense of being actual and existing in the world, must it be "proven" by evidence and logic. The scientific method is a long-standing process by which ...

Fool me once... well, not even once

I have been reading posts and watching YouTube videos on Spyderco fakes. I figure someday I'll save up enough to get a higher-end Spyderco like a Para 2 or some such (difficult to decide, which is part of the fun) and I do not want to end up with a fake. From what I can tell, unless you have the kni...

Re: Which spyderco is in the mail?

OK. My fifth Spyderco (I'm counting the two Dragonfly 2s I lost) is still enroute. We had one of those spring Rocky Mountain snow storms and the bloomin' truck got held up somewhere and now I won't see my new Tenacious until Monday. Boo hoo...

OK. I feel better now.

Not really...

Re: A change in tone

Too often, a discussion by a tiny percentage of individuals has no relation to what the marketplace does or will do. Michael, Here is a frank question, lets say you work for Sal and lets say you have the gift of precognition and you can tell by looking at a knife the kind of threads that will be ma...

Re: A change in tone

I pretty much left because I got bored of the same ole posts over and over & mainly because I am not a fan of the new designs Spyderco has been coming out with... Your perspective, the customer who actually has a Spyderco-bias (i.e. would look for Spyderco products preferentially) but has some issu...

Re: A change in tone

I joined this forum last Monday. Now it's Friday and I've been reading what I would call "furballs". We used to call them "flame wars" in the early days, but the dust-ups here are not as vitriolic. As most of you probably know this kind of behavior is not unusual in forums or clubs for that matter. ...

Re: New to this forum and to Spyderco

Welcome, Michael. If you ever make it up to Denver, it is worth a detour to the Spyderco Factory Outlet in Golden. There you can see and even handle their current line of knives in a friendly environment staffed by knowledgable employees. This is a very well behaved forum, one worth contributing yo...

Re: Help Defining Off-Topic vs General Discussion Please

I like keeping it simple, as it is. Getting too pedantic leads to ever more hair splitting in what is essentially a subjective area. People are here because of their interest in Spyderco products and company, so topics that are "generic" like whetstone sharpening still have relevance to Spyderco. I'...

Re: Manix 2 XL or ParaMilitary 2 - Which to get next??

Well, depends on whether you need it or want it. If it's a case of want, you kind of have to listen to those voices inside your head and go with which one the knife voices want.

Re: I really like FRN

I was about to remark that the best thing about a bright, obvious color is that it makes the knife harder to lose, or forget, but having lost my orange Dragonfly 2, that argument doesn't hold up for some of us. I think the edge — it's grind, shape and length determine what it is best used for and th...

Unless the need is pressing, I'd say no. I tend to use the Search function to hone in on threads or topics of interest anyway. Less work for the moderators if you keep it simple.

Re: Ali Express / Alibaba.com

One possibility is to use a visible serial number on each knife. This number would be assigned by the manufacturing facility in coordination with the Spyderco main office database. It could be tracked as to where and when it was made, where it was sold (distributed) and which authorized retailer end...
