Re: Talking about your traditional knives

Finally got around to recovering this one in bocote. It’s not perfect but much better than the discoloured and warped yellow plastic it came with. Changed the Spey some time ago into a clamshell package opener with a small spatula? tip. Whatever it is it’s great for applying epoxy into tight spaces....

Re: The Wire Clip: express your love, hate, indifference

I love the ring! I’d probably break a wooden ring, but they’re purdy! Thnx, I’m pretty rough on things but bocote is very tough. Doesn’t scratch up easy either. I’ve made some with micarta or even metal inside for more strength as well. I chose it for the insert because of how strong it is. Had to ...

Re: The Wire Clip: express your love, hate, indifference

As much as I dislike the wire clip, my local store had an Ikuchi and I had an idea. I made a little filler tab for the wire clip. It’s not perfect but it makes a knife with a wire clip useable. I’m going to make a few more for my other wire clipped knives now rather than selling or giving away. DE7E...

Re: Ikuchi

I figured I’d post an update for anyone that might care. I don’t carry it everyday but often enough to say my little filler tab for the wire clip works well. It has stayed put and doesn’t catch on things like I feared it might. It makes the knife useable! I’m going to make a couple more for my other...

Re: Pricing question on scales

This the one you’re talking about? Looked different new, kinda grungy now after years of use. I’m sure I could clean it with a magic eraser but I like it this way.

Re: Pricing question on scales

I’m not sure exactly what it’d run you but for not too much more you could pick up fully custom scales. I’ve got a couple sets from Suingab, g10it. He does great work and you can send him an image or logo and your scales are personalized perfectly to your tastes. My Delica for example has my tattoo ...

I’ve got a few in the show your mods thread and many others I’ve not posted. I typically use my choils for my middle finger with my index up near the tip ...

Re: What Are You Driving / Have Driven?

Currently and since new, a 2007 Honda Ridgeline. Wife’s driving a ‘12 Hyundai Elantra. Before that she drove a Honda Civic. I was in a ‘94 Honda Accord. Prior to the Accord I had a Pontiac Sunfire, worst pos ever. Will never own another GM because of that! Before that had an ‘81 GMC Sierra Classic a...

Re: Just ordered some Nano Oil *cough snake oil cough*

I sometimes use grease, got two different kinds from my old work. One is pretty thick bearing grease, the other is thinner hydraulic cylinder grease. Both work well but I’ve moved more towards fishing reel oil. Currently “Quantum hot sauce”. I used to use “super lube” but found it needs reapplicatio...

Re: Spyderco Knives

Well to start with, there’s no reason to pay Msrp. Even after exchange rates, I can often purchase for less here in Canada. Next, I wouldn’t necessarily say a Spyderco knife is “better” than their main competitors. They are different in some ways, more steel choices, more handle materials, clips, fa...

Re: Choil-less Spyderco Knives

I’m definitely not on board with deleting a choil from Manix or Native! The Native is way too small to lose the choil, also the 3 finger grip behind the choil is very uncomfortable and the grip feels very unsecured. For my hands anyway. But that's exactly the point!! Why does the Native just have a...

Re: Spyderco Merch

I’d like a ball cap, preferably “pro fit”. Problem is I wear a large kids hat to a small adult size so I guess I’d live with a SnapBack. Just not a cheapo funny looking one like some companies do for promo items.

Re: Slipjoint mod Para 3

Fantastic mod! I agree with comments suggesting it would be amazing as a removable part for travel. It also seems like it would be not terribly difficult for Spyderco to tweak their design to allow for a “slipjoint” version using the same handles, (or slightly tweaked as the cutout for lock release ...
