Re: Spyderco Pairs: Reviews and Reflections

One of my favourite pairs of the same model - the K390 and AEB-L Urban:

They both offer performance and steels from differing ends of the spectrum. :)

Re: More Edge Retention Testing - Rex 45, Maxamet, SPY27, XHP, CPM-T15, 420, Rex 76

Also, it might be instructive to see a micrograph of the REX121 which was used for this round of tests in comparison to the image from the previous HT which resulted in excessive retained austenite. Retained austenite typically doesn’t show up on conventional etching techniques. That why x-Ray diff...

Thanks again Larrin for this addition to the outstanding body of work you’ve developed. It would be good to see a micrograph of REX45 added to your micrograph article, when you have time. I’m guessing you already have it pencilled in on your list of things to do. Also, it might be instructive to see...

Re: How does your Significant Other coexist with your knife collecting syndrome?

A good king? I don't think so. Probably what he had was an executioner standing behind him with a drawn 5-foot sword ready to be used against anyone who proved not to hold His Majesty in the high regard that he thought he deserved. ;) :D Oh for sure, bro. That drawn sword ready to strike anyone who...

Re: How does your Significant Other coexist with your knife collecting syndrome?

Ha ha ha! :D Fair enough then, mi amigo. I accept that 6 will do for now, and advancing further on the scale may take a little more time. :) But I’m pretty happy with 6, when even Gail Glesser only attains a 7 , as far as I know... :D :) Precisely, mate! And that gives us a good benchmark to measur...

Re: How does your Significant Other coexist with your knife collecting syndrome?

[...] So yeah, definitely a 5 or 6 by Menipo’s scale. Maybe a 7 or 8. :D :p But an 11 to me... :) Nein, nein, nein! 6 at most. A rigorous classification is based on the use of well-defined categories. The first 5 were described in the OP. For the avoidance of doubt let's complete the 10 grad...

Re: How does your Significant Other coexist with your knife collecting syndrome?

Mine’s at least a 5 or 6... :) She likes good knives for her work and hobbies, but she’s not as afflicted with accumulating them as most of us here are. She’s pretty happy with the CF Chaparral, which replaced a walnut handled Opinel No 8 I gave her years ago, that she made a neck sheath for. She pr...

Re: Which spyderedge knife is the sliciest?

My SE Z-Cut, definitely. As far as serrations go, the VG10 Cook’s knife. Regarding folders, the SE section of my 52100 CE PM2. It’s thicker stock than the models mentioned above, but it really does glide almost effortlessly through material. There’s discussion from time to time about a FFG 52100 UKP...

Re: Stretch in a steel I never heard of v-toku2

V-toku2 steel will definitely take some time to figure out, I worked on a fence yesterday and had to use and trim lots of zip ties, and twine, last night this knife felt dull and sticky, yet it’s still hair sharp, very very hard to read steel , trying to figure out if it will benefit with a duel ed...

Re: Spy27 models ?

Hi Ranch, As said above, SPY27 is being progressively rolled out, and I think we’ll see it in many more models. Personally, I’m hoping we’ll see it in some kitchen knives too. Although Spyderco no doubt perform extensive in house R&D on new steels, there’s also an ongoing phase of ‘real world’ t...

In past times it was Treason to discuss the demise of the King, and a capital offence. Now it’s just poor taste. Sorry, but honestly ....

I agree.
