Re: Victorinox "Champ" model?

I regularly carry a Vic. Craftsman which is a six layer SAK, almost as big as the champs. I cannot really carry and use any over 6 layers. I really like my craftsman though. It has sadly been discoed for many years now. The truth is that these large SAKs are no bigger or heavier than the plier based...

Re: SEKI-CITY JAPAN looks hand etched

Seki has been sending out knives with wonky font like that for a while now. That alone does not signify a fake in my opinion.

Re: Why all the Manix love?

Spyderco has made some ugly knives, in my opinion the Manix is not one of them. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that but at least the Manix isn’t the Dodo, Poliwog, Gunting or Jot Sing Khalsa. Those knives have faces that only a mother could love. ;)

Re: Bench Stone F vs UF

My UF stones came with red ink on the ends and my fine stones came with nothing on the ends.

I can tell just by dragging my nail across them. The UF is actually much much smoother.

Edit: sorry, that is my sharpmaker rods. My UF bench stone has “UF” written on the ends in sharpie.

Re: Why all the Manix love?

I don’t worry what others think about my knife. There was a smooth CF exclusive from KC. I am not a huge Manix fan. The ergos are secure but I wouldn’t call them comfortable. I also dislike the superfluous jimping. I actually prefer the ManixLW over the G10 version. That said, I am carrying my grey ...

It would only make sense in a budget knife but they already have 8cr13. I’m not too interested.

Re: Spyderco Merch

I am still regretting not buying more bandanas. I only have one and it is getting old. I wear it quite a bit. I am still bitter about the dice. I really, really wanted a pair of them. :) Well, actually I would like to get five of them but two would suffice. Beer coozies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

Re: AEB-L Urban Performance Reviews

Look, folks liked the Super Blue so we asked for an American carbon steel and got the 52100 knives. Jim was very outspoken against that too. Now folks want AEB-L so Spyderco gave it to us. Jim is again outspoken about it. I understand wanting folks to have realistic expectations of what the steel is...

Re: AEB-L Urban Performance Reviews

Some info. http://www.devinthomas.com/faq.html Few know what AEB-L steel is, and those that do, only have heard that it is similar to 440B or 440A. The only similarities between AEB-L and 440B or 440A is the amount of carbon. The fact that AEB-L has only 12.8% chromium by weight compared to the 16-1...

Re: Poll: Smooth G10 vs Peel Ply G10?

I cannot see needing texture on a Manix. The ergos are so secure that you would have to cover your hands in grease to even think about it slipping out of your hand. Personally, I feel that a knife that needs texturing is lacking in ergonomics. The knife world is filled with titanium framelocks that ...

Re: Polished or Toothy finishes

I finish most everything on either the Spyderco medium stone or a DMT 1200 grit. Some kitchen knives and a few folders like my Super Blue Delica will get refined more. If I am going to really refine an edge I pick a steel that is easy to sharpen. I guess I have gotten lazy ( efficient :) ) about it....

Re: Users, Collectors, and Social Media Madness

Most knives end up in the hands of folks who are not enthusiasts, just like most cars end up in the garages of folks who are not auto enthusiasts. We need to remember that we look at the knife world through a small window. When looking at premium knives or sprint/limited edition knives you are focus...

Re: AEB-L Urban Performance Reviews

AEB-L is a good steel and has its applications. However, for me this is where the hype exceeds reality. This is my issue with steel hype. AEB-L is a clean basic steel that is intended to behave like the premium carbon steels. That means good edge stability, good toughness and easy sharpening. If you...
