Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral

Thanks for your replies. My stubbornness has about ran out, I think this little guy's going back for exchange. I hope I haven't sacrificed my thumbs breaking it in to a "barely acceptable" state  Everything else about this model is stellar :) I hate waiting for them to come in the mail. Se...

Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral

How much do these lockbars break in? I'm accustom to fondling a GB1, and this thing is eating my thumb alive.
If the pressure needed to disengage the locks of my Dfly, Caly, and Native are a 3/10, 4/10 and 5/10 respectively, this Chap is a 10/10.

Re: Suggestions in 2.75-3.0” Range

To me, the Native 5 feels like a full-sized knife with a 3" blade, while the Sage feels like a true mid-sized option. The Sage is like a Dfly x 125%
If I wanted to split the difference between Dfly and pm2 (my first 2 Spydies also!), I'd go Sage. All three are great, however.

+1 for Emerson Delica, PE Lil' Matriarch if we're going crazy with alt blade shapes.

Re: Urban Slipjoint 'action' not crisp

Mine has also developed play like yours. I think the D-shaped pivot hole of mine has deformed slightly?
This model has made me appreciate washers and/or liners around the pivot quite a bit more.

Re: Reinhold Rhino Update

One more observation. This pic, and the catalog pic seem to show Taipei, Taiwan on the blade, rather than Taichung. Spyderco used a Taipei factory for the Salsa at least. I also recall that the earlier photos of the 50-some dollar version of the Rhino said "Taiwan" on the blade, rather than "Taichu...

Re: VTOKU Sprint Run

Looks like SUS310 contains something like .25% C and 25% Cr, which is .1% more Carbon and double the Chromium of SUS410.
This would suggest better wear resistance right?

I like the denim-y FRN color.

Re: Official 2018 Catalog Discussion

Congrats Surfingringo on the Waterway.
Interesting to see the Taiwanese factory will be producing a zero-ground convex blade.
Frankly, the Native Salt would be 100% more attractive without the black hardware/clip imo.
Kopa sprint is a pleasant surprise :)

Any significant difference in SUS310 vs SUS410? I know many of you have been asking for more scratch-resistant cladding.

Excellent. I can only resist the temptation to buy for so long.

Re: Small Knives VS Large Knives

Certainly, there are many tasks where larger blades are more efficient. However, small knives do something for me that larger ones cannot: They can be carried in just about any attire, and in more locations on the body. In gym shorts, or out on a run, a Dragonfly is just about the only knife I'll ca...

UKPK's also. To your point about locking mechanisms, I'd expect that you're right about them dictating how thin stocks can get.
The Bradley Air is the only non-backlock under 3mm that comes to mind.

Re: Calling all Gayle Bradley users

My Bradley's detent ball wore down very quickly. Maybe within 4 months. Detent strength suffered a lot as a result. It's a good point about the strength of the linerlock affecting this, mine's lock tension is pretty extreme. It was easy to pop the ball out, rotate 180 degrees, and reinsert. Temporar...

Re: Experiences with detent wear?

Just reporting in at the four month mark post ceramic bearing swap. Did notice some minimal smoothing of the edge of the detent hole and tang upon observation about two weeks after the swap--No visible progression in wear since. Action is markedly smoother than it ever was on steel, detent is still ...
