That's an interesting looking folder.

Who makes it, and what's it like to use.

EDIT: Sorry, Wildsteer WX. Still, what is it like to use?

A 10mm thick tanto blade, where much of the blade is 10mm wide up close to the tip would be stronger than a 10mm FFG which has a definite taper to the point. A 2mm thick tanto blade, where much of the blade is 2mm wide up close to the tip would be stronger than a 2mm FFG which has a definite taper t...

Strongest blade (if someone is sad enough to use a blade like a prybar) is probably a tanto, or something else where the spine of the blade goes almost to the tip. The full flat grind is not as strong as a tanto but it is a good slicer. Since a knife is supposed to cut stuff the full flat grind gets...

After getting my ZDP Ladybug I can only say, "they're smaller in person."

A good little cutter though.

Basically on eBay look for sellers with a lot of positive feedback, who stock a lot of knives, and are based in the USA.

You're unlikely to go wrong with those guidelines.

The Navy K631 has been around for a long time, and it's possible that without it we wouldn't have the Byrd range. Sal was smart to basically one-up the copiers and make his own "copies" of popular Spyderco knives in China and sell them in the US. Yes, it's obviously heavily "inspired" by various Spy...

Steel and heat treatment are a significant price difference, as is the cost of development in the first place. When you have a devoted QC department that incurs another potential cost. Of course there's the labour cost as well. There is a reason why you pay four times the price for an original over ...

Well it looks like they're replicating the FRN now.

It's a good thing I only buy from reputable dealers in the US or here in New Zealand.

To be honest that's something that I don't like about the Navaja. The original Navaja made the ratcheting noise because that was part of its opening mechanism, the toothed end of the blade acting against its lock. The Spyderco Navaja has a ratchet like in a child's toy to make the same sound for no ...

There are other guided rod systems like the Edge Pro that aren't copies. There's an all stainless system that is produced in China that does the job for not too much money, you've probably seen it. It's not as easily used as the Edge Pro, lots of screws and nuts, but with an Angle Cube it's easy eno...

*laughing* I've seen genuine ZDP Ladybugs for about $40 plus postage on eBay (reputable seller). Given the FRN handles (which we're told is expensive to set up production of) I'd think they are possibly genuine, which is why they're so expensive. On the other hand that seller stocks a lot of copies.

I'm not sure there's a correct answer to this because any knife can be made razor sharp depending on the time you're willing to put into it. I can get a shaving edge on a cheap POS utility knife with cheap diamond plates in a few minutes. If the question was, which knife will retain a razor edge lon...

The Civilian copy they put the actual steel in the product description, 9Cr18MoV.

They definitely won't have been importing VG-10 for their knives. I suspect that any knife that has a high perceived value will be 9Cr, and something that doesn't will something like 8Cr or worse.

Jeez. Do you intend on decapitating your attacker? That is a huge blade. I take it you don't conceal that... (How can you?) Never the less, I'm certain it will get the job done, and that's all that matters. Actually the Spartan folds up and tucks in a pocket quite nicely. It even has a fairly low r...

As Sal has pointed out himself IIRC, no American jobs have been lost through producing budget Spyderco knives in China because those knives wouldn't have been produced in America. Instead the money made by selling knives like the Tenacious goes into the Spyderco bank account and helps support their ...
