Re: S30v

Geometry of the blade beats steel selection. I just got another knife with S30V and am learning to experience it again. Not my favorite but I won't kick it to the curb.

Re: Looking at a Caly

I love my caly, 3 and 3.5. Ergonomics wins over "gripyness/jimping" every time. This is the knife I end up coming back to time and again because it just works. Give it a try and live with it for a while, you won't be disappointed.

Re: Bradley folder

The only thing that would get me is a K390 sprint. I've used the GB1 with no problems.

Did anyone mention PD#1 yet? I also like M4. I'd be interested in 80CRV2 to compare to 52100

Clipitool K390 Blade?

I would love to see a Clipitool with a K390 blade- what do you think?

Re: Hap-40 performance thread

I run mine at 30 inclusive with a 40 microbevel. In my experience it can get to a very high "sticky sharp" phase but it does not last very long. It does retain a very sharp usable edge. Overall its an OK steel but has not really captured me. I prefer K390 or superblue. I do appreciate it being avail...

I like the Calys the way they are, but I wouldn’t complain if their vertical blade play was zero...
Yep, I was flipping my GB1 and thought about the solid lockup on it.
I haven't mentioned the PB washers or K390 steel.

We all speak a bit of heresy now and then

I'm flipping open my Caly 3 and start to wonder- what would a Caly be like with a liner lock?
Backlocks are OK but not my go to.
A Caly 3 or 3.5 in a liner lock,
What think ye?

Re: My experience with the Caly3

The Caly 3 is one I keep coming back to. F and F is excellent. Ergonomics are excellent. My only knock on it is the feel of some vertical blade play when I'm doing heavy cutting which I think is common on lockbacks.

Re: Mule Team

I find the best way to finish for optimal ergonomics is use strips of sand paper and pull them back and forth, it really goes miles in terms of getting a well rounded handle. Just jump in, making handles really are not that hard and they are very rewarding.

RWL34 Mule is still available. I still can't believe PD#1 is available when cru-wear sells out in flash.

Re: Who's for replacing ZDP-189 with HAP40 laminate in regular production?

What if we replace all beef with chicken?

Keep ZDP. I like Hap-40 but I'm not a huge fan of it on my caly 3. Its my go to knife but I would probably switch to ZDP if I had one around.

Re: Best knife for deer skinning.

I posted this a while back https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-Wdwjlu9mY The guy uses a Moran. I would suggest a fixed blade, the mule teams are great. If not I'd go for Spyderco Southfork or a Sprig or the Moran. For a folder I would suggest GB 1 or 2 or a stretch. There was an old post of a guy usin...

Re: A Spyderco SAK?? Why not??

I think there is room for a new concept. I like the clipitool and probably will get one in the future. That said I would love one with an upgraded steel. Its really up to market demand but I really like that they have continued to refine the tools. Recently I was in Switzerland and was really disapp...
