Re: Spyderco UF rods legitimacy

I've had the red on my UF stones wear a bit also, it is common and normal.

Virtual Meet

This is usually the time of year to drool over Wouter's pictures from the Amsterdam meet and get teased about upcoming knives. But life isn't normal. I have no concept of what it takes but I'm wondering what a virtual meet would look like? I'd be willing to buy a ticket to an on-line meet (funds got...

Re: How do I take care of K390?

I forced a patina on my urban but not on my other K390 knives, I never coated with oil either, no problems and a nice patina developed.

Re: A11 and CPM 10 V

They are very similar. There are a few versions of A11, aside from the Micromelt A11, but they are all virtually identical. Unless someone does a cut test with these steels, it should all feel the same between 10V and A11. K390, which is supposed to be an "upgraded" A11, is the most different in co...

A11 and CPM 10 V

Please clarify my understanding. The Micromelt A11 and CPM 10V are essentially the same steel. One made by Carpenter the other by Crucible, correct? My A11 mule is the same steel as CPM 10V?

Re: Mule Team Survey

1. Yes, probably 10
2. I made handles, that is part of the appeal of mule teams for me
3. I made kydex sheaths
4. Sure did-
5. yes, but more by experience getting a feel for the different steels than by formal testing.
6. Incidentally but not with a formal write up

In praise of the Mantra II and thumb holeless designs

I recently got a Mantra two ti with M4 steel and have been blown away by the refinement of the design and what it offers. The first thing that strikes me is the handle to blade ratio, it packs a lot of blade into a small handle length. The blade shape and splinter picking tip are fantastic. It is in...

Re: S90V Love ~

I love my CPM s90V Southfork, to me it is a great design and a great steel for the design. S90V is a bit strange to sharpen but not overly difficult. I have not had a good experience with CPM S110V- too chippy but S90V is a steel I would use and look forward to.

Re: HAP40 or REX45?

Its a new one for me that they are the same steels. I'm carrying the Caly 3 in Hap 40 and its been a ok steel but it doesn't "pop" for me like super blue or k390. Has anyone been able to do a HRC test on the caly 3?

Re: Caly 3 love?

The Caly love will come around again when the LW model is released. I would anticipate some K390 models and other steels that will put it into the spotlight. An issue has been some of the struggles finding makers that can produce the same quality.

https://forum.spyderco.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=85492&p=1384163&hilit=elmax#p1383529 There was another thread recently. Its not a bad steel but had acquired a bad reputation. To sum up the thread there are some other steels that are more easily available that perform just as well. I like it but would...

Re: designs - evolution - lifting

Technology such as the internet has created a shift in how we as civilizations think and collaborate. It used to be people thought in parallel, there was no overflow unless there was collaboration. If two people came up with a common idea it was either a coincidence or they were lead to common conce...

Re: Why the lack of Elmax options -- are any on the horizon?

I recently started carrying a ZT knife with Elmax, I like it quite a bit. Some of the qualities I like, keen edge, takes a polish, good edge stability I also find in steels like CTS-XHP and CPM-20CV or M390. With other steels out there I like better (K390) I would not gravitate to elmax because of t...

Re: Caly 3/3.5 interest Poll

The slimness and simplicity coupled with the ergos make me keep coming back to the Caly 3. Its not an intimidating knife for non-knife people.
