Re: Spyderco pairings

Today I'm carrying my S90V Manix 2 XL and black Pac Salt. I'm doing some yard work and both are good for small limb whacking. Sorry, no time for pics. Your shot makes me want to get out my Calys and clean them up.

Re: Pacific Salt praise

@ Higher, I think something similar to this might work: (The pivot in the Pac Salt just has one removable screw and the other end is capped off, but, frequently, barrel screws come with removable screws in both ends for attaching scales on fixed blade knives, etc.) https://usaknifemaker.com/pivot-b...

Re: Pacific Salt praise

I continue if you will. It's about Pacific Salt first generation. With handle from Endura 3. Initially, this knife was assembled on pins. About 10 years ago, instead of pins, screws were installed. as below in the photo https://files.catbox.moe/v0k65r.jpg I got my knife on pins in very poor conditi...

Re: BladeHQ M4 Manix XLs

BHQ is one of the few entities I let notify me with texts (Spyderco is another :) ) so I got instant notification, but I've already got the satin XL and both M4 jade M2's, not to mention the S30V XL DLC, so I'm gonna reluctantly leave the DLC XL for someone else again.

Also he said he would drink out of any container you gave him, no matter what you put in it, if you would let him rinse it three times. :D As someone who handles both herbicide containers and kids' sippy cups that have been abandoned with milk in them, I would hesitate to make that statement. (I'd ...

My gold twill scales from Dagestan supposedly "Arrived at the Post office Махачкала" on 22 April... and are supposedly "in transit," but USPS tracking says "Origin Post is Preparing Shipment"... if that makes you guys feel any better

Re: Pacific Salt praise

If you have access to a drill press, you might be able to clamp the knife in place and very carefully drill out the pins with little damage to the scales. Then you could see if the pivot is usable, and if yes, then you could search for screws.

Re: Smokey Mountain knife Works.

Their catalogs are good to test your edges with. It's free! I've been working on my freehand technique and experimenting with 1200 grit diamond vs spyderco medium finishes to see what feels or works better. It's the perfect paper to see if there are any snags, burrs, blunt sections, and if the blad...

Re: What makes a metal a metal

I am intrigued by the science of determining exactly what a metal is. This was a topic when I took chemistry so many years ago. It's important to remember that a technical definition like "metal" is fairly arbitrary. The topic for discussion is not really "what is metal?" but rather "in what way is...

Re: What makes a metal a metal

I was a little surprised that they said "only metals are able to conduct electricity." If they meant that literally, I guess that means that distilled water, people, etc, have enough metal ions in solution to qualify :D I am by no means knowledgable on the atomic structure of metals... but then aga...

Re: Pacific Salt praise

There are some threads where people talk about replacing screws, etc, but I don't recall any mentioning the Pacific Salt. You might be able to find some mention of it with the search engine. I guess the worst case scenario would be to just carefully grind out the pens and try different screws until ...

Happy to make my first post. I've reached a point where the enjoyment levels are not understood by my local circle of friends. Feel related? I like the Q-ball so much that I bought a second, which I plan on babying all my life. The knife is smaller than you may think; but once you land in the choil...

Re: Mobile page zoomed in view?

It must be bigger on some devices. On my laptop, I wouldn't have really noticed the difference in size if I hadn't seen this thread. But having seen it, it mainly looks a little bolder and more legible, which I very much like. I'm getting tired of the general trend these days toward pale gray on pal...
