Maximum freedom yields the greatest possible efficiency.

There is no trade off between them--when people are free to choose, humans organize themselves in the most efficient manner.

Freedom _is_ efficiency.

Re: Investments

Penny stocks are just a form of gambling/speculating, it's not investing. I dont touch them. You should only buy a stock if you would purchase the entire company and be comfortable keeping it forever. If you buy something with the intention to sell it, you are speculating, not investing. I recently...

Re: How much are you willing to spend on a Chinese made knife?

I voted for the last option, but I've never really felt the need to buy chinese when golden and taichung are putting out super high value knives (if more expensive in an absolute sense).

Certainly possible. Contact with sweat or acid could be the culprit.

Re: Giants

There is no such thing as purely objective science. That is a myth. Every time a person examines anything there is going to be a bias of some sort, no matter what. Even computers can be biased as they are only as good as the (faulty and biased) programmer. The best we can do is eliminate as many bi...

Re: Reality-Check please: Are our VG10 Knives slowly poisoning us?

SEF, I really wish you would stop starting these kinds of radiophobic threads, SEF is building up a pretty solid reputation for nonsense threads. It’s just what he does. He's also polite, courteous and good natured. I've not known him to be judgemental of anyone. So I pose the question; Who ...

I thouit was to:
1. Sell you something
2. Give better purchase when drawing the knife

Yes, 2 is of dubious use but see 1.

Re: Experiment: Try open carrying a fixed blade for a week

I would be interested in this, as I have more fixed blades than I use regularly. And it is legal for me to open carry a fixed blade knife, I'm just unable to conceal one. Without carrying a neck knife, I'm not sure how I could be certain that I didn't accidentally conceal it. So, I probably won't pa...

Re: Giants

I mean if you're a normal human size and you've stood next to or shook the hand of an NFL lineman, you quickly realize that "giants" do exist. I'm pretty puzzled by this topic. Is there any question that there is a wide range of human sizes, both now and in the past? This is due to any one of: norma...

Dislike sharpening. There should have been this option on the poll: “No. I try to buy knives faster than they dull.”

I’d buy a copper bolstered spydie! It’d go with my SS (Kris), titanium (sage 4), and brass (Schempp Bowie).

Indeed. Good people standing up to bad does not mean taking unnecessary risk. If you can avoid, do so. If you can exit, do so. If you can deescalate, do so.

Re: Who are the best comedians you actually saw their act in person?

Dave Chapelle, this would have been 2002. I absolutely couldn’t breathe and all of the material felt new.

Lewis Black was pretty good, he had some interesting topical stuff because he went to UNC (he was performing at UMD, both were in the ACC at that time), but much of the rest I had heard before.

Re: Interesting but creepy: China introduces world's first Artificial Intelligence News Anchor

China is paying Google to develop AI for them. I call it treasonous. This is precisely the point I just made. YOU call it treasonous, and maybe 90% of the population would as well, but it's not currently defined as that. We have ITAR which very stringently regulates weapons information transfer to ...

Re: Interesting but creepy: China introduces world's first Artificial Intelligence News Anchor

I've been doing a lot of reading on "artificial intelligence" ( A I) for the past two years or so. One interview that I found compelling was one done with TESLA executive Elon Musk. He stated that he went to the Whitehouse and warned President Obama when he was still in office about the potential d...
