Re: Sharpening tips

I use a guided system and sharpen the entire edge the same way. Some systems such as the sharpmaker require you to be careful that you don't hit the tip wrong and wear it excessively. I think a guided system will do fine on the tip. But it isn't how you sharpen the tip that is the problem, it is tha...

Re: New? Immerse!

most knives were selected by the "look" and "What I like the looks of". I say; "too much eye and not enough brain" ;) You are correct and I have done that too although I look at a knife and try to determine how it will feel and function based on its looks. But I still liked the knife to look good. ...

Re: Do most of us need larger knives?

I find that about 3.5" of blade works the best for me. I don't usually need a long blade for what I cut except when I'm slicing an apple or pear. Also the longer blade sometimes helps with reach so I don't have to put my hand all the way against what I'm cutting, such as if I was using a box cutter....

Re: Is the Military too big or big enough?

I don't think it's too big and I carry one on weekends, but I usually carry a PM2 or Manix 2 to the office on weekdays. I also carry the Manix 2 XL sometimes.

Re: Would You Buy a Blue Handled Spyderco?

I like blue. I bought the PM2 in M390 (then sold it later). I bought a blue Delica but my daughter took it. I have one of the Tenacious sprints with blue scales, the blurple PM2 with S110V, and the LW Manix 2 with S110V.

Re: Sal asks you to design a Spyderco.

I like pointed blades so I like the blade shape of the Starmate. I've never handled one and I get the impression from reading about it that the blade grind is a bit thick. The handle shape also seems a bit odd, it has several bumps and dips that don't have an obvious reason. Granted if I ever handle...

No.
I am perfectly happy with the PM2 and I am perfectly happy with the Military. I have no reason to change either one.

Re: Spyderco knife rotation? How many?

I have 7 in my weekday rotation- 3 versions of PM2 M4, PM2 S110V, Manix 2 LW in S90V and S110V, Manix 2 XL DLC. I have 3 that I use on weekends- Military M4, Manix 2 M4, Manix 2 Cruwear.

Re: Manix 2 XL Question

I haven't had any of those problems with any of my Spyderco knives, and I've had a lot of them. I was carrying that exact model last week- Manix 2 XL DLC.

Re: Spyderco knife rotation? How many?

Weekday rotation is in transition- it was 10 knives (8 Spyderco and 2 others) but I am cutting it back to hopefully 7 Spyderco and maybe 1 other. The 6 established members are 1 Manix 2 XL, 2 Manix 2 LW (S90V and S110V) and 3 PM2s (1 S110V and 2 M4). The one that I want to add is another PM2 M4. My ...

Re: Who here carries a fixed blade in your front pocket, and whatcha got?

I have a few that I carry occasionally for fun. One is a Bradford Guardian 3, the other 2 are customs. I find that I can carry a knife of 7" overall length or just a bit shorter in the front pocket of some of my pants, that's about it. Anything shorter and I don't find it useful because I can't get ...

Re: manix v. paramilitary

I have both and I like both. My opinions on the comparison are that the PM2 is a bit lighter than the Manix 2 G10 version, and uses less space in my pocket, but I think the Manix 2 is a bit stronger. So for me the PM2 is my best EDC but on weekends I use the Manix 2 as a work knife. (I realize that ...

Re: Any interest in a PM2 with LC200N

For awhile now I've suggested that some of the most popular models should be available as production models with a choice of steels- a standard steel such as S30V, a corrosion resistant steel such as LC200N, and a high end steel such as S110V or even M4.

Re: Pm2 in m4 vs s30v

M4 is my favorite steel in a folding knife. My environment and my typical use aren't a detriment to carbon steel, my M4 takes a long time to patina.

If a person gets along without corrosion resistance and has the tools to sharpen M4 then that is the one to keep.

Re: Does anybody else really dislike the look of spyderco knives?

I don't think they look bad, I think some of them look good. But I'm not concerned about looks, I'm concerned about function because I own them and carry them to use. After all, Spyderco knives are designed for the hand, not for they eye. They are designed for function and they function well. "Beaut...

Re: Can I ask you lot something?

If speed were important to me, I still think I’m faster and more reliable with the spyder hole than a fipper, assisted flipper, or other method that I have tried. I haven’t tried an auto, but I doubt it would change my mind. I've made some observations of various knives that I've owned and used. Sp...

Re: How can you like FRN but hate FRCP?

I've seen this opinion expressed numerous times on this forum and I'm confused by it. I haven't noticed a big aversion to FRCP. I'm carrying an orange LW Manix 2 right now, in use I can't tell the difference between FRN and FRCP although I believe there are differences in the manufacturing process....
