Yeah I would totally buy some without holes
I am tempted to try and make my first set of scales - and was debating between "holey" and "non-holey"
What do you dislike about the holes?

Maybe on my next one, this one was Shanghaied by my wife. Haha

She didn't even fiddle with it. Just saw it and stuck out her hand. :p
She obviously didn't read the whole form vs function thread!
See - we can have both, and the Watu is a great example :D

Re: Watu - aftermarket scales?

I'd also be interested...haven't seen any yet, though. I'd probably already have a Watu if it had g10 scales with some kind of color. I think it'd look really cool with pakkawood scales, too. Yes - I normally love micarta - but I think wood would fit well with the ethnic series design behind this k...

Watu - aftermarket scales?

I know the Watu was only recently released - just asking if anyone is aware of any aftermarket scales yet? I really like the knife. There is something about the laminated CF that doesn't sit right with me. It looks fine and it feels fine - I just don't like it. As an example, I now love my Smock aft...

Re: 3 Classics You Want To See As SPRINT RUNS

We have lost quite a few classic designer/knifemakers these past few years that I am feeling a bit nostalgic. How about a homage sprint run series?
Goddard - I prefer mini, but okay with baby
Centofante - thinking vesuvius!!
Jess Horn or Tim Wegner to round out the trio

Re: Cruwear micarta Bushcraft/Proficient

Not a deal breaker! I would actually prefer polished. And - it is easy to run a little sand paper to rough it up if that is what someone prefers. I think green micarta doesn't polish as readily as natural? If so, perhaps that is an option? Perhaps after milling, you would end up with a matte finish ...

Re: Form vs. Function

With a background in design, I wholeheartedly believe that "form follows function." I also think that we are incredibly lucky to not have to choose - we have stellar knife designers/makers here at Spyderco that can provide both. Form over function has its place - but not something I prefer to carry ...

Re: Foiled again!

What you really need in that situation is a flying guillotine. I tried that, but the stock wire clip made it sit too low in the pocket so it was not readily available. I was even willing to accept a little pocket shredding to get a tactical advantage, but it didn't work out. If only it came in all ...

Re: Rock Lobster 'mini-skinny' chop

Really liking this - good thing I can't easily order up a rock lobster ;)
Could you include some pics with the blade closed?
And curious - was the original plan for picture 3, but then you kept shaping and ended up with picture 4? I am trying to understand why you made the cuts you did.

Re: Spyderco Cat Refresh

The cat was the knife that first pulled me into Spyderco. I agree that the black g10 was not very inspiring. I loved it so much I had a few sets of scales made for it even. The CF was full-CF. Early days of CF, and I remember lots of them had chips or inclusions. Couple of old photos: faux bolster l...

I can't think of any with that exact shape/edge, but the Dyad has a really pointy and thin tip. Kinda similar.
Dyad - your are right. Kinda similar.
That made me think of the Jess Horn- very similar as well.

This might lead me down an odd rabbit hole.

Re: Anything else like the Watu blade shape?

There was the Chokwe before the watu. Its a bit different but the Opus has a blade shape that is similar. It was just discontinued and there should still be some out there at discounted prices. Thanks. Bigger than I typically carry, but I am considering one now. Also readily available, unlike the C...

Anything else like the Watu blade shape?

I am finding the Watu blade to be just about perfect for my uses. It starts as a straight/wharncliffe, has a very gentle belly, and ends in a nice acute tip. I appreciate and use the sharp tip (rather than a sheepsfoot). So my question - any other knives with a similar cutting edge profile? Most kni...

Re: Roadie idea

I would love a thinner blade roadie - with and without the extra tools. My guess is the opening dimple needs a certain thickness in blade stock to function well.

I wish it was a little slimmer stock than 3mm, but loving the looks of this guy!

Also I could be mistaken, buy isn't MAP 70% now? Making street price of $175?
yes, you are right :(

Re: Going to the SpyOpera.

Just saw this. Its everything I want in a knife. I've literally been looking for a Spydie that has as many of these characteristics as possible. Anyone have any idea what the price will be? Or how many they will be making? MSRP is $250, so expect street price at $175 with MAP (editted with updated ...
