I have a plain black vesuvius as my PE EDC and I'm very happy with it. I prefer my blades tip up, and left it in this condition. But I don't keep it in my pocket, I have it IWB. It seems less likely to open tip up when I carry it. I'm very pleased with the compression lock, though I've heard some co...

Several years back the Shomer-Tec catalog had rubber spydies. Endura, Delic, and Civilian if I remember correctly. http://www.shomertec.com/ I just checked and they didn't have it on their website. They may still have it in their catalog. <a href=http://www.spyderco.com/forum/Topic.asp?topic_id=6200...

Thanks for the info guys. BTW, just got the live blade yesterday. It's got a number 437 just above the spyder hole. Anything special 'bout that? And I know, don't open it on yer leg. <a href=http://www.spyderco.com/forum/Topic.asp?topic_id=6200&forum_id=7&Topic_Title=Terms%2Bused%2Bfrequentl...

Gunting Holster

I'm looking for a skunkworks holster for my gunting. I've tried to call the number located at: http://members.ispwest.com/doughunt/skunkworks/sheaths.htm but there was a woman's voice on the machine. It sounded residential. I also tried the email listed there. (skunkworks@aol.com?) to no avail. Anyb...

It's interesting reading the above comments. Mostly, I saw 'heft' as the answer. I'm partial to the FRN knives. I like that they're lightweight, and have no problem with the weight differential between the blade and handle. I've carried the Buck 110, and now it seems ridiculously heavy when I pick i...

Normark questions -- VW Help?

I've sent a few emails to Eric @ Normark regarding a neck sheath for the SS Dragonfly. No one has responded. Anyone know what's up? BTW, I've looked at a few other sites: I'd really like the sheath to carry the blade folded, tip down. Normark's is the only one I've seen that does this, and the price...

I carry for utility purposes (and fun too). SD is always an option, but I live and work in a fairly low-risk environment. Furthermore, I am untrained in knife combat, a situation I'd like to rectify in the near future. <a href=http://www.spyderco.com/forum/Topic.asp?topic_id=6200&forum_id=7&...

My original Spydie buy was a rescue. Over the years I carried it, I sharpened both sides equally. Looking back, I think this was a mistake, though I did follow the instructions in the booklet my Sharpmaker came with. I agree you should sharpen the "front" side more than the "back"...

As one with personal experience being cut with a SE blade, I figured I'd chime in. Through some carelessness and general mishap, I sliced my thumb open while attempting to cut rags with my SE Rescue. I nearly separated 1/4 of my thumb from the rest of it, requiring some 14 stitches and 11 novacaine ...

Shortly after 9/11 I heard a news bit that claimed the hijackers did not carry their 'box cutters' onboard themselves. There was allegation that they had help from ground crew, who placed the weapons on the planes before they were boarded. The truth of how the weapons arrived onboard may be unknowab...

Dremel: my favorite power tool

To be honest, I don't own that many power tools, but I must say that the Dremel multi-tool is my favorite by far. I've used it for countless projects, both around the house and for hobbies. With my knives, I have used it to shine up my SS dragonfly handle. Unfortunately, the emery wheel wasn't the b...
