Re: Time Travel Revisited: What kind of effects?

demoncase, if man can ever somehow harness faster than light waves or particles, could that allow some form of "time viewer" even if the physical person could not travel there? No, for a whole series of complicated quantum mechanical reasons......to create a window to "back there" you need to impin...

Re: "Why not more knife fans?" revisited.

Why aren't more people into knives? Not everyone can be as cool as us. :) That's a good point :) When it comes to "everyday people" in the UK, namely in Britain, do most still have any knowledge about the history of the great Sheffield knife and blade and steel makers or has that mostly passed away...

Re: History of Serrated Edges on Blades?

I'd look elsewhere for the first 'uses' of serrated edges in knives- Bread knives in the kitchen today are nearly always serrated, to allow the edge to grip the crust. A bit of Wikipedia'ing suggests that the first sight of a serrated bread knife dates to 1893 and the Chicago World's Fair- made by F...

Re: Time Travel Revisited: What kind of effects?

Oh- and finally- that's if you find away of suddenly having a persons-worth of atoms suddenly co-existing with the atoms that make up the air when you snap into existence.....as Sci-fi likes to gloss over that bit ;) For reference, the theoretical result that happening is a sudden, violent, fusion e...

Re: Time Travel Revisited: What kind of effects?

Time Travel is a classic trope of Sci-fi because it's always good fun- with lots of good and bad outcomes to get your teeth into Plus you get to re-use the costumes from the last Julius Caesar play Wardrobe had gathering dust ;) My thinking is that if anyone could cheat entropy and the laws of ther...

Re: 9mm vs 40 S&W vs 45 ACP

I've always marvelled at the US 'revolver hunting' trend- with those long-barrelled .357s, .44s and the like- They do look like fun but weigh as much as a reasonably handy carbine. We don't need no stinking long guns  https://youtu.be/7RFD1_ESbpM Perfect for indoor shooting ranges or casual p...

Re: 9mm vs 40 S&W vs 45 ACP

Personally- all and any round made for a semi-auto pistol has had a number of compromises made that (to me) make it less than desirable for hunting flexibility- I want something bottle-necked firing a high sectional density bullet on a flat trajectory from a nice long barrel.....Something which has ...

Re: Survival Vehicles?

I think one of the core issues would be power: If you could somehow have an engine that can run on a wide-range of materials, such as something able to burn vegetable oils and materials found in nature, you would be alot better off than one which required specialized gasoline. Like pretty much ever...

Re: Delica Black Blade?

Don't believe there has been a DLC (diamond like carbon) coating on a delica (?). The above referenced knife w/ red handle and the other referenced current production delica with coated combo edge blade are not DLC coated; they are black titanium carboniteride coated. I'll have to defer to the expe...

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report

I keep going back to the pictures of the Endela and trying to work out what the overall blade shape/handle shape reminded me of.....it was nagging at me. Then it hit me: the Endela is basically a supersized Manbug- the blade shape and handle are the exact profile of that little marvel- but turned in...

Re: Interesting knife: "The Disciple".

It's interesting- definitely built for one very specific purpose.....I'd probably like one in my collection. Can't imagine EDCing it, as my EDCs are about pure utility not defence- I CAN imagine too easily whipping that out to cut a sandwich or cabletie then sawing at it like an idiot until I went "...

The Golden team have brought me to tears

So, over in off topic I celebrated our little miracle Georgina. https://forum.spyderco.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=82858 As a result I had a couple of emails from the lovely, lovely folks in Golden including Tazkristi. A few weeks later, all the way across the Pond, I had a another little suprise. https...

Re: Kidney Stones?

Get well soon good sir. The good old British NHS has a great page on the "devil stones"- When reading everyone's advice above I'd take a look at the 'causes' and 'prevention' pages to draw your own conclusions: A couple of big things I'd point to are- 1. There are 4 different types of kidney stones ...

Re: Consumer vs Industry Standards for Spyderco?

It's actually fairly easy to explain: Industrial standards are about measurable repeatability, provable perfomance and quality as a verifiable quantity- Quantifiable Consumer standards are about intangibles, how the product makes you feel and how desirable it is- Qualifiable Industrial standards are...

Re: G10 UKPK officially makes a return! Heinnie Haynes Exclusive

Mine is clipped to my Pjs as we speak. Really crisp half stop and full open that "snaps" into place with authority. The red is a classy deep crimson. Oh, and scary sharp out of the box. :)

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report

It's really nice to see all these pure classic Spyderco models this year in their next evolutions and iterations- and that 4" Native is a dream knife. While I have loved some of the collaboration models in the last few years, there's always something utterly delightful in holding a pure Sal or Eric ...
