Re: Eye Glasses

Here in the UK, eye examinations have to meet the NHS requirements- and the price is never more than £25 (Lots of folks get them entirely free) The same goes for glasses- they have to meet NHS requirements for quality and safety.... So even the cheapest pair of glasses will be more than good enough...

Re: Why Do People Hate Knives?

Folks like what they like and dislike what they dislike. If someone told me they disliked knives I wouldn't be too shocked. However, someone once told me that they didn't like ice cream. I'll tell you what, there are two types of people in this world, those who like ice cream and people who I do no...

Re: Eye Glasses

Trivex are one of the several brand names for thinner-lighter lens materials.....They make no difference to the view from the user side but they do reduce the dent in the bridge of your nose For those of us who (in previous times) would need the bottoms cut off Coke bottles to see, this is a boon......

Very cool scales on that Sun & Moon.....
.....Glad I'm not the one that has to polish them though: I bet not damaging or smearing the inset across the G10 is a real challenge

Re: The Spyderco Earth- a knife made from 100% recycled materials

What would the footprint be to achieve this? What would the cost be? Raise prices on other products to make the new product sellable? To what end? This seems like the "drive my Prius to the airport to get in my private jet" syndrome. From a manufacturing standpoint one would need the down stream su...

Re: The Spyderco Earth- a knife made from 100% recycled materials

I'm not entirely sure about powder steels but there are very few non recycled ingot steels. I can only think of a couple used in knives like some of Hitachi's. White steel? Maybe. Most every steel manufacturer uses recycled steel to some degree. Some blend recycled with new steel made from ore. Isn...

Re: Why no raisin M&M’s....

They could put a mini m&m inside a regular m&m... Actually that’s a great idea! Double crunchy. I bet they would sell very well. They put Reese’s pieces into peanut butter cups already, and they seem to sell. I suspect it might have something to do with the moisture content of the raisins that prev...

I have a 9" long scar up the side of my skull that demonstrates that even a tiny little scalpel can get down to bone.

Regardless of what I might find distasteful and needlessly cruel- it's entirely up to the Spanish to decide what should be banned. That's a very wise viewpoint. I wish more people in this world thought like you. It's kept me safe on my travels around the world. ;) A closed mouth gathers no feet

The Spyderco Earth- a knife made from 100% recycled materials

So, I had a daft thought while stuck in traffic*: Spyderco do all kinds of dedicated models with charitable focus and output (Pink handles for breast cancer etc). Spyderco do all kinds of other great things for folks of all kinds and show levels of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that are humb...

When certain brands make a big thing out of their blades being thicker and thus "stronger" than anyone else....I'd keep the thickness 'mix' in the range the way it is.

Re: Stainless Steel Structural Steel: Why don't we see more of it?

What an excellent analysis of the situation, demoncase. Thank you! And here is a somewhat related question: If an American or Australian or other person wanted to visit an English village or small town that had the "feel" of an old-time Victorian or before village but also with access to modern con...

Re: D2 Steel Again: What should one expect from its properties?

I'd second the advice above- D2 from a known and reputable manufacturer is going to be a solid knife.....though as hard as a politician's heart when it comes to resharpening.

I have a Lionsteel Daghetta in D2 and it's scary sharp with a very polished edge.

Re: Stainless Steel Structural Steel: Why don't we see more of it?

Here is a related question for you about cost in buildings: Is it the expense of finely-detailed architectural work that is behind the lack of much intricate artistic details on most modern residential and commercial buildings? Look at buildings made in the Victorian period and Edwardian era, in bo...

Re: Stainless Steel Structural Steel: Why don't we see more of it?

You might see some Stainless sheets for cladding as an aesthetic or architectural feature....in those kinds of buildings that win awards for design from people with no appreciation of classical beauty. But in the actual support structure? Not required and too expensive for the application Yes, like...
