Avoidance, tools, training, tenacity, luck. That's the formula. Luckily random attacks are quite statistically rare. And RUN like the wind. Knives are for when you're backed into a corner, if at all possible you should flee. Especially if you're female. I'm not the guy you want to go toe to toe wit...

I've read reports that, while SE cuts some materials better than PE, it's more likely to snag in others. I can't confirm that's true, but I would not be surprised if it is, given how few of the characteristics a knife can have work well in all circumstances. I've stabbed a lot of people with SE bla...

Part of the reason I don't like serrations as much is because they are chisel ground on to the blade. Yeah, this has always bugged me. It's more a cosmetic complaint to me -- chisel-ground SE certainly works great for a lot of materials. SE has its advantages but I like a combo edge. I have a combo...

I have one deep pocket Sog. It's a real pain to draw, I use my middle finger to hook around the end of the clip go give me something to grab onto. It's very awkward and ruins what is very nearly an excellent knife once it's out of my pocket. And for what? I have no particular reason to hide a knife ...

I used to think "yeah! gimme that carbon steel!" but look at the folder in your pocket. All locking designs have some internal surfaces of the blade that rub against something. I would hate to have that get rusty, cruddy, and stiff. It just means you'd need to keep it oiled just like you would the i...

For an outdoorsy fixed blade I think I'd rather have several inexpensive plain-jane carbon steel blades than some fancy schmancy $200 supersteel blade.

The bevel on my Manix 2 is perfectly uniform and ~30 degrees. It really wasn't very sharp though. Like, I had trouble opening boxes with it. Easy enough to fix but it was a little surprising. My older spydercos came pretty **** sharp.

I've had my Manix 2 for ~2 weeks. I don't have the friction problem but the spring is really frickin strong. So far no sign of lightening up. Certainly swapping the spring out with a spring from a pen is about the worst thing you could do. Disassembling and shortening the spring by a turn or two wou...

All of these are still MUCH slower and less reliable than pulling a fixed blade out of a properly designed sheath This. If your prime concern is deploying a knife under stress in a hurry then a fixed blade is what you want. Everything else is a compromise (though a necessary one, in my case at leas...

It's probably a good idea to keep your mouth shut about your employer unless it's your job to provide info to the world.
