Re: Province - First Impressions.

Is the Province shipping with an edge that acute, or did you reprofile when you first got it?

Re: Bento Box Something Something....

Somebody really needs to do a study to show how much more useful life you get out of the massively long-wearing steels like K390. Who knows, maybe they're undercharging for this one.

Would it be cheaper? Otherwise, no. Ain't nothin' broke with M4.

If you don't beat on the Province, that'd be a terrible waste.

Re: So what's your top 3 favorite steels? and why?

Cru-Wear: strikes the best compromise for me between easy sharpening, edge stability, wear and corrosion resistance M4: requires a little more careful corrosion protection regimen than Cru-Wear, but an utterly elite performer BD1N: idiot-proof sharpening, good corrosion resistance, good balance betw...

I'm sure it's good. Cru-Wear is good, and PD1, as noted above, is the same basic stuff.

Re: Knife Center Spyderco Annual Clearance Event

The Mantra 2 price at KC ($119) is really good. If I didn't already have one I'd pick that one up. But it's not on my "most used and need a backup" list, so someone else gets that smoking deal... :) Sweet! The trouble some people had with the washers were enough to dissuade me from picking up the M...

Re: Cruwear ?

Crosshatching with really light forward strokes breaks the burr up into little jagged bits that come off on the strop.

Re: Cruwear ?

The one trying thing about M4 is that it's got wear resistance sufficient to make burr formation take a while, AND toughness sufficient to make that burr a bit of a pain to remove. In fact, I think a lot of the time I "sharpened" my Air for the first couple years, I was actually just aligning the bu...

Re: Native Chief Lightweight

There are some contexts where I think linerless G10 is better than FRN. My G10 Urban from back in the day was great, and I don't like the current FRN model nearly as much.

On a knife as long and slender as the Chief, though, I certainly see the appeal in having some steel in the grip.

Re: Cruwear ?

It is a nice steel, one of those steels that makes you feel like it wants to be sharp, like it wants to cooperate. It is allot like M4 in its ability to take a very sharp edge and do so easily but keeps it's edge longer and is far more stain resistant than its numbers on paper would lead one to bel...

Re: Cruwear ?

Yep. You’d like it for all those attributes. Pretty good stain resistance too. Hap40 and Rex45 are excellent on sharpening and the edges they take as well. Highly recommend any of these. Yep! Re: POLL: ENDELA: Who has already bought / will / will maybe / will not get one?

When I next need a utility-level folder, that's the one. But the Spydies I've got now are pretty tough beasts. It may take a while.

Re: Cruwear ?

Cru-Wear excels in those areas. It is less forgiving of being rode hard and put away wet. And its wear resistance is good, but not elite.

I love my Air, and now that the edge has receded more than halfway up to the Spyder hole... I’m having trouble imagining what this looks like (got a pic?). Whatever, that’s some kind of use! Well, part of that is use, and part of it is that it took me a while to learn to sharpen a knife witho...

Also, if the Province is much like other Spydies I've bought, the factory edge is probably somewhere near 18 per side anyway.

+1 for another GB folder in any size, but a 3" successor to the Air seems overdue.
I love my Air, and now that the edge has receded more than halfway up to the Spyder hole, I probably want a replacement Air even more than I want the Swayback. And that's sayin' somethin'.

Re: Let's discuss Nitrogen steels

So H1 is not a nitrogen steel? Is this the same sort of thing as Pluto not being a planet? I would expect a surprising statement like this to be substantiated -- and without a "go read my paper on this pay to view site". What would be nice is a brief explanation, along with a note, "for more inform...
