Re: Respect Bowie short feedback

The term 'choil' is the correct term. A choil is the unsharpened section of the blade, perpendicular to the ricasso, between the blade grind/cutting edge and the guard, bolster, or handle. The term 'finger choil’ is the name Sal coined to describe the part of a folding knife that integrates the blad...

Yes, as I recall, black and brown "burl" G-10 handles with black G-10 ferrule and white G-10 spacer making a traditional Japanese octagonal handle.

Re: WE or KME for Spyderco FFG Blades

Edge Pro is another system that's been around for a long time that offers consistency. The original clamping system was created by Ray Longbrake. ( Loray sharpeners ). His history is an interesting study. Now, very few have even hear of him..... A good man that was really cheated out of his inventi...

Re: Dragonfly 1 FRN

Was the second version (1.5?!) with the pinky ledge and spine wedge pinned too? I cannot recall. Was the Dragonfly the first model to have a major revision, other than bevels on the C01, C02, C03 and C04?

Happy! Happy!

Re: Guides for freehand sharpening

Angle guides can be most helpful, especially when learning. Watch their video: https://youtu.be/GKIojuevy2Y The real key, however, is the large 10" x 4" DMT diamond stones (220, 325, 600, and 1200 grits). Large stones give you maximum cutting (grinding) ability which translates into fewer ...

We had one come apart (not enough epoxy or wrong epoxy) in the store, but a couple of globs of J-B Weld and it is better than new!

Re: The Return of S60V/440V

Steve Green of Dunn Knives (http://www.dunnknives.com/) found a way of heat treating 440V (S60V) to a hardness in the low 60s without the chipping issues. He individually quenched each blade between two water-cooled (think radiator) aluminum plates. This more rapid 'freezing' increased the toughness...

Re: Sal...Coarser Stone?

We use a DMT Model W250EF to establish the bevels and flatness for all of the straight razors we professionally sharpen for our shop. The double sided, perforated surface is 10" x 4". The 600grit and 1200grit work quickly and efficiently. I have sharpened several hundred razors with our or...

Re: Shun kitchen knife

Depending upon when your Shun Classic (DM0#?) was made it may have the newer VG10 Max which I believe is Takefu Cobalt Special (CoS). It should be laser engraved on the blade. Regardless, I sharpen all of my Japanese kitchen knives with a 20°micro-bevel for maximum edge retentio...

It would be interesting to test V-Toku1 versus V-Toku2 to see if the 1% Tungsten difference is significant.
