The thing I don't understand is why so many Spyderco folders use carbon steels VS nearly exclusively using stainless for fixed blades.

I value toughness more in a fixed blade.

I worry about corrosion more in a folder.

Always seemed backwards to me.
Been wondering the same for years..!

Re: The Waterway Will Be Mine...

Unless you're running the knife's edge into the sheath when you un sheath and re sheath it, you shouldn't have a problem. :) I agree, but find it really hard to avoid touching the sheath with the edge in regular use. I am always trying to be mindful, but can’t always be as careful as perhaps one wo...

Re: The Waterway Will Be Mine...

Anybody else’s Waterway came as dull as a butter knife? I’m going to resharpen and test it- might be the sheath. I tested the edge after taking it in and out of the sheath It’s not the sheath. Mine was also dull straight out of the box. QC needed to be better on this one. Yeah. I reprofiled and sha...

Re: The Waterway Will Be Mine...

What’s holding the G10? No hardware to speak of. Internal pins and glue. Right! I really like that clean, hardware-free look. Hope it holds up well over the years. Gonna put a 13-14 degree convex edge on that sucker and see how it does. I'll be shooting for a similar angle with a V edge. It'll be f...

I tested the edge after taking it in and out of the sheath.

Otherwise, it’s nearly perfect.

Re: Can I baton with lc200n?

I use my SpydieChef plenty hard. I’ve cut really heavy dity zipties, fish bones, and other typical material like heavy duty cardboard, wood and rope. I find Lc200N to be plenty tough. What I do recommend, however, is to use the right edge when tackling heavier duty tasks. I personally put a 13-14 de...

Re: V-Toku2 vs HAP40 vs VG10 vs ZDP189

V-Toku and Hap-40 if you want something that’ll behave similarly to VG10 on the stones. ZDP if you want a performance beast, and are an experienced user/sharpener. I am really not a steel-, nor a sharpening-expert, but have some experience with both VG10 and HAP40 (and like both a lot): For me HAP ...

Re: Who wants a Spyderco "Sharpened Pry Bar"?

I’ll pass. Thanks.
Spyderco has some overbuilt models, especially in their fixed blade lineup. Shaman is plenty thick, too.
Soyderco prides themselves in making great cutting tools.
Plenty of other makers that’ll make you a knife-shaped prybar, however. I don’t buy from those companies.

Re: Why no Sleipner?

My guess is that Sleipner steel doesn’t have enough benefits to justify its price.
Also, D2 which is rather similar to Sleipner is not frequently used in Spyderco knives, probably for similar reasons.

Nope. Different length for these two screws. Which is unfortunate, but I suppose necessary.
