Re: Spyderco Face Mask (now bandana, hat and patch)

well some sort of herringbone feels fitting for that style hat. i can say that is probably one of the more niche styles of cap although i have seen them more and more and even kids wearing them.....

Re: Wildland Firefighters Knife

what about the autonomy that heli guy had was not suitable? I know that hey are a bit heavy but i almost think it checks all your boxes, except the barb wire. Im thinking a small pair of knipex or vice grips must have a cable snip.

Re: Fire Starting Gear

I don't mean to sully the thread I actually still have a ferro rod in the camp chuckbox. But lighters are so dependable a bic is about as good as it gets and will go from soaking wet to lighting again in most environments relatively quickly. They don't lose fluid like they used to and they are amazi...

Question: So are the liners and hardware different on the production Autonomy 2 versus the SMKW? Would a simple blade swap make the SMKW model a salt?

a classic slipjoint blade profile with spyderco twist which is very fitting in my opinion. I like that too.

Re: Exclusive Process?

anything less than an 8-10 month lead on these would surprise me simply based on manufacturing as I understand. Design>Delivery>secure materials>delivery> secure machine time> delivery> Assembly> deliver to market. that might have been .4% of the process.... so much time and money into materials and...

Re: The sad realization that I cannot live without choils...

I am the exact opposite. I cannot get it through my mind to choke up on the blade to put a finger up there. i grew up on slip joints and using the bolster on them or being cautious to not slip my grip off the handle. I love the ikuchi, chef, and centofante and they are my current rotation. Ive got ...

Re: Spyderco Neck Lanyard?

I have always been concerned about the inherent danger of paracord/nylon webbing lanyards (and the same material being used for holding neck knives) as it could be used for grappling or strangling in an altercation. Also, it would never be a good idea to be wore around any machinery. That is why I ...

Re: Sal—design for Roadie 2

Sal, can I ask why go 2.6 when a nod to the legality of 2.5 blades would harken to the design of the original being a blade that is within the rules. still larger than the original but only slightly. I just discovered this thread and really appreciate how the roadie looks so innocent. the size and s...

Re: EDC vs WEDC

I work in a school setting where knives have restrictions. I specifically work with students identified as potential safety concerns for one reason or another. Due to this I limit what I carry to work. My afterwork and weekend carry varies wildly based on my daily tastes. I also consider what I migh...

Re: Besides salt water, what do you find causes rust the most?

i have been making pocket organizers and leather slips recently. I did a bit of research and there is a lot of discussion around chrome tanned leather causing rust when used for holsters and the like. I also found another source that argued modern tanning techniques dont leave enough chromium salts ...

Re: Water Filters & Purifiers

i view the lifestraw as an emergency limited reusable device. the MSR and Katadyn have serviceable and replaceable filters. buy the katadyn if you plan to leave the US or if your budget is unlimited. I can also say i have been more than pleased with every piece of MSR camping gear I have used. I loo...

Re: Water Filters & Purifiers

I have had a lifestraw in a b.o.b. for years but have not had to use it thankfully. it was cheap insurance. I have used both a katadyn and an MSR while backpacking in both Georgia and Wyoming on multi day trips. The Katadyn was tougher to pump but apparently did more for viruses and other things you...
