Help me choose a big folder: Shaman vs. Li'l Temperance 3 vs. Manix 2 Mid-backlock vs. ATR 2 vs. Caribbean

I generally prefer using a fixed-blade if I need a knife with more than 3" of blade length but my local knife retailer is holding a sale that runs until Boxing Day, so I figure this is a good time to try one of Spyderco's bigger folders. Of the options listed above, which one would you recommend for...

Re: VG10 and SG2 Experiments and History

Congrats Larrin on getting an "honourable mention" in the knife portion of Nick Shabazz's Gear of the Year video for 2019... I think you might be the first non-knife thing to make it to the list!

Re: VG10 and SG2 Experiments and History

Thank you for this latest article Larrin. VG-10 seems to be out of fashion in these days of powdered metallurgy & "super steels" but as your analysis shows, it's still a very capable & reasonably well-balanced steel option for folding knives. But while I probably own more folding knives in VG-10 (al...

Re: Tell us about your Spyderco Knife of the Year 2019

My Knife of the Year for 2019 is the Introvert , a knife designed by Chris Knutsen, initially produced by Spyderco in 2016 & discontinued in 2018 but one which I acquired early this year. It's neither my most used knife of the year (that has to be my combo edge Native 5 Lightweight, which is my go-t...

Re: How many knives do you typically carry?

I usually have 2 knives on me if I'm not at work (I voted for the "2" option in the poll): A Spyder Edge Manbug on my keychain for "convenience cutting" tasks and a small or mid-size folder—usually something in the 2.75" to 3" blade range like a Native 5, Delica 4, UKPK, Yojimbo 2, Introvert, Karaha...

Re: Spyderco Spyderpac Knife Storage Cases

I recently bought my second small Spyderpac from a local retailer (I'm based in Canada) during a Black Friday sale & as far as I know, they haven't been discontinued. They're a bit price-y when compared to generic tool rolls (hence my getting one on sale), but they are a very nice way to keep your S...

Re: Four pockets, Four blades

At work I carry at least 4 cutting tools at all times: (1) A serrated Manbug that lives on my keyring; (2) my work knife—usually a Native 5, Salt 2, or Delica 4—in my right front pocket; (3) a Leatherman Skeletool CX with a 154CM knife blade (I carry the Skeletool mainly for the pliers & wirecutter)...

Re: Spyderco Value Knives

Tenacious is one that I would love to see with a VG10 steel balde...just because. The ergos and the edge which runs way back the ricasso, makes it perform above it's weight. Have you tried the Polestar? It's basically a Tenacious blade in CTS-BD1 mated to a choil-less version of the Byrd Raven hand...

Re: How was your 2019?

2019 will go down as the year that I bought more Spyderco knives than any other year. But it is also the year where I sold or gifted away more Spyderco knives. I think I've finally settled on the Spyderco folder designs & steels that I like. Prior to this year, I was still searching for the designs ...

Re: Gentleman EDC / Groomsman Gift

UK Penknife. Very discreet & a well-done slipjoint is always classy (and if he wants a more premium model, he can get the version in S110V). Don't get me wrong, the Spydiechef is a fine knife that I would personally love to get as a gift, but I don't know if it's the first knife I would choose as a ...

Re: Lost knife

Someone in a facebook group I am in lost a Paysan. Dang, that's rough. The most expensive knife-related thing I've ever lost was a Leatherman Skeletool (which is not really a premium item all things considered) & I was super-annoyed at myself for days afterward for being so careless. Can't even ima...

Re: Black Friday cyber Monday DEALs?!?

For any of you Canucks out there, Gorilla Surplus currently has the Jumpmaster 2 selling for C$137.26 (approximately US$102). That's the cheapest I've ever seen it go for at retail. Took a lot for me not to buy it (I already have a Waterway for a rustproof fixed-blade & can't really justify buying t...

Re: Lost knife

I usually find mine under the seat between the seatbelt buckle and center console. I literally just found my trusty blacked-out combo edge Delica (missing for a week) in the exact same location... it never occurred to me to look there because I was so certain that I'd lost it at work. As an added b...

Re: Which spyderco is in the mail?

I got the D'Allara 3 in one of the bhq bundles not long ago. Im just going to say the ceramic ball bearing lock is a different animal than the caged bbl. What Im getting at here is dont judge all ball bearing locks off of this one. Thanks for the tips! Yeah, I've always wondered about the design ch...

Re: Which spyderco is in the mail?

Waiting on the recently discontinued Spyderco Q-Ball. I've always wanted to try out the ball-bearing lock but I'm not particularly interested in buying the Manix 2. Don't get me wrong, I think the Manix 2 is an excellent knife but it's a smidge too big to fit my needs as a work knife. When I saw the...

... I had a manager who said that my Dragonfly looked "scary"). Isn't that pitiful? One wonders how he/she manages to get through life being so timorous. The funny thing is, he was pretty much a regular dude except for his very specific aversion to/fear of knives. If I had to play armchair psycholo...

Re: Discussion: What do you think is the best size for an EDC folder?

There are no firm blade length restrictions where I live (Canada). It's all about intent: if you have a qualifying reason to publicly carry a folding knife of a particular size on your person, you can carry it. Note that "self-defence" is not one of those reasons, but if you carry a folding knife as...
