Re: Help me choose a big folder: Shaman vs. Li'l Temperance 3 vs. Manix 2 Mid-backlock vs. ATR 2 vs. Caribbean

This is going to be disappointing and anticlimactic to you guys following this thread but after hemming & hawing for the past few days on getting a work knife for Boxing Day, I finally decided on... a Wharncliffe Delica 4 (at 20% off). I know, I know, it isn't a large folder. I almost pulled the tri...

Re: Your Spyderco Christmas Eve And Christmas Day EDC

I'm working on Christmas Eve, so I'll probably have either a serrated Salt 2 or a combo edge Native 5 Lightweight on me. Christmas day, I plan on going on a long trail run, so probably a Dragonfly 2 Salt Hawkbill

Re: What Spydercos are you giving as Christmas presents?

I've given the following Spydercos so far (some of these were given as birthday or "just because" gifts, not strictly Christmas presents): Native 5 Lightweight in CPM-S35VN (brother) Native 5 Lightweight in CPM-S30V (uncle) Para 3 Lightweight in CTS-BD1N (brother) Cat in CTS-BD1 (brother) Byrd Knive...

Re: Native 5 with Compression Lock please!

I wouldn't buy one—the Native 5 Lightweight as currently configured functions perfectly for me as a work knife—but I think it would be nice as an option for people who like the Native 5's ergos and aesthetics but prefer the compression lock over the mid-backlock. That said, the Para 3 and Sage 5 alr...

Re: Help me choose a big folder: Shaman vs. Li'l Temperance 3 vs. Manix 2 Mid-backlock vs. ATR 2 vs. Caribbean

So far it looks like the Shaman is the runaway winner in the poll. I knew it was popular but still. Appreciate all the input guys, and even the non-poll suggestions like the Endura & PM2... from a purely functional standpoint, I would probably pick Vivi's suggestion of a Pacific Salt over any of the...

Re: Help me choose a big folder: Shaman vs. Li'l Temperance 3 vs. Manix 2 Mid-backlock vs. ATR 2 vs. Caribbean

Ok, my local retailer just added a Manix 2 Combo Edge (CPM-S30V) to their Boxing Day sale list... for C$124.99 (basically the price of a Manix 2 Lightweight). That makes things even more complicated!

Re: Help me choose a big folder: Shaman vs. Li'l Temperance 3 vs. Manix 2 Mid-backlock vs. ATR 2 vs. Caribbean

I loved the lil Temp 3 except the handle space was a little squeezed for my XL hands. If you have med-small hands and could get this cheap, this would be a great choice. I loved the Shaman but it’s quite a lump. If you need a real heavy duty user and less worried about pocket mass, this would be an...

Re: Help me choose a big folder: Shaman vs. Li'l Temperance 3 vs. Manix 2 Mid-backlock vs. ATR 2 vs. Caribbean

I would go for the shaman or manix 2 backlock. However, IF you can get a lil temperance 3 at a good discontinued price, since they are selling cheap right now, I would get that and pick up a shaman or whatever next year after your wallet recovers. The only other issue is how much longer manix 2 bac...

Re: Help me choose a big folder: Shaman vs. Li'l Temperance 3 vs. Manix 2 Mid-backlock vs. ATR 2 vs. Caribbean

Have you already handled all of these? Do you like 50/50 choils? If not, the lil Temp seems best (unless you prefer the Caribbean). It also has the thickest blade stock, which i don't love. I've handled all of these except for the Manix 2 mid-backlock. I like choils fine, but I don't find them to b...

Help me choose a big folder: Shaman vs. Li'l Temperance 3 vs. Manix 2 Mid-backlock vs. ATR 2 vs. Caribbean

I generally prefer using a fixed-blade if I need a knife with more than 3" of blade length but my local knife retailer is holding a sale that runs until Boxing Day, so I figure this is a good time to try one of Spyderco's bigger folders. Of the options listed above, which one would you recommend for...

Re: VG10 and SG2 Experiments and History

Congrats Larrin on getting an "honourable mention" in the knife portion of Nick Shabazz's Gear of the Year video for 2019... I think you might be the first non-knife thing to make it to the list!

Re: VG10 and SG2 Experiments and History

Thank you for this latest article Larrin. VG-10 seems to be out of fashion in these days of powdered metallurgy & "super steels" but as your analysis shows, it's still a very capable & reasonably well-balanced steel option for folding knives. But while I probably own more folding knives in VG-10 (al...

Re: Tell us about your Spyderco Knife of the Year 2019

My Knife of the Year for 2019 is the Introvert , a knife designed by Chris Knutsen, initially produced by Spyderco in 2016 & discontinued in 2018 but one which I acquired early this year. It's neither my most used knife of the year (that has to be my combo edge Native 5 Lightweight, which is my go-t...

Re: How many knives do you typically carry?

I usually have 2 knives on me if I'm not at work (I voted for the "2" option in the poll): A Spyder Edge Manbug on my keychain for "convenience cutting" tasks and a small or mid-size folder—usually something in the 2.75" to 3" blade range like a Native 5, Delica 4, UKPK, Yojimbo 2, Introvert, Karaha...

Re: Spyderco Spyderpac Knife Storage Cases

I recently bought my second small Spyderpac from a local retailer (I'm based in Canada) during a Black Friday sale & as far as I know, they haven't been discontinued. They're a bit price-y when compared to generic tool rolls (hence my getting one on sale), but they are a very nice way to keep your S...

Re: Four pockets, Four blades

At work I carry at least 4 cutting tools at all times: (1) A serrated Manbug that lives on my keyring; (2) my work knife—usually a Native 5, Salt 2, or Delica 4—in my right front pocket; (3) a Leatherman Skeletool CX with a 154CM knife blade (I carry the Skeletool mainly for the pliers & wirecutter)...

Re: Spyderco Value Knives

Tenacious is one that I would love to see with a VG10 steel balde...just because. The ergos and the edge which runs way back the ricasso, makes it perform above it's weight. Have you tried the Polestar? It's basically a Tenacious blade in CTS-BD1 mated to a choil-less version of the Byrd Raven hand...
