Re: Im keeping my enduras. No to the police 4

It might not be a revelation, but it is the best folder they make IMO. The price is pretty high, but the Police 4 is more comparable to a sprint run G10 Endura than a standard FRN. The price of a HAP40 G10 Endura 4 would likely be over $160. The Police 3 was a lot easier to swallow at $125, but pri...

Re: Im keeping my enduras. No to the police 4

Walmart has the P4 for $188.47, free shipping. The cheapest comparable/available Endura (Pakkawood = G10, metal back-spacer) is C10WDP for $168.97 at knifecenter. Don't forget, there were price increases beginning of the year. I purchased my ZDP-189 for 120. Which they still are. The HAP40 is a zom...

Re: Im keeping my enduras. No to the police 4

Your Endura would be $200 also if they sold one in G10. That is why there is no G10 Endura. I suggest you wait for the frn version before you write the model off completely. It will be much more affordable. Also, don't use Maxamet as a reference point. They are pricey. The maxamet is pricey for sur...

Re: Im keeping my enduras. No to the police 4

What about the upcoming FRN Police 4? I may very well be interested. It is not lost on my however that the native LW in maxamet was within 12 dollars of the G10 full frame in S110V. So im thinking hey if they dropped 25 dollars on the police that would make it $176 which is palatable, but not neces...

Im keeping my enduras. No to the police 4

So there i was having decided i needed a police 4! My thinking was k390 in a 4+ inch folder! Sounds great!!! I have enduras in ZDP and HAP40 and was getting excited about the new knife! Checked the usual online retailers (NOT amazon lol) and found it costs 200 dollars. Now i dont consider myself a m...

Re: Who's for replacing ZDP-189 with HAP40 laminate in regular production?

The edge retention of ZDP really is far superior to HAP40 - the only steels from Spyderco that can match or beat it in terms of edge retention are Maxamet, S110V, REX45, and on a good day, with the best HT and geometry, possibly M390 and S90V as well. Out of those listed, the most similar performin...

Re: Advantages of 4 " (plus) blades?

A long blade can do more than a small blade. A smaller blade can do things with more control. Sometimes I want the control of a smaller blade but most of the time I want the versatility of a longer blade. A Military paired with either a Delica or a Native is my go to combo. Today it is an M4 Milita...

Re: Advantages of 4 " (plus) blades?

Stimulated by some recent posts and discussions I´d like to adress a question to all of you who like to carry folders with blades of 4 inches or longer: What are the actual advantages of such a long blade in various EDC-scenarios compared to a not short, but around 3.5 to 3.8 blade ? Let me specify...

Re: Discoloration and other Cosmetic Imperfections in knives: What will you tolerate or not tolerate?

Honestly my modest collection of Spyderco have all been superlative. I come from the old school however, and patina has long been a companion. I find that imperfections make things more "mine". Unique to me. Some find this intolerable, but after the first flaw or scar, i find i enjoy them more. I ha...

Re: Best Blade Length for Self Defense; And What Do You Carry For This Purpose

My sincerest apologies if my comment about my l-comp initiated bad feelings. I merely intended a small joke. The part about my fixed blade was correct. I was instructed starting in boot camp from Aug 1985 on the use of a 6.5 inch fixed blade, and in no way demean them or anyone on this forum. I know...

Re: Do Super Steel Alloys End Carbon Steel's Reign for Knives or not?

I like them for pocket knives, but I prefer the simple carbon steels for fixed blade. I'd rather have a fixed blade in A2 than S110V. I LOVE my A2 fixed blades. Wouldnt trade the 6.5" swell handle for any other knife. Convex edge with a linen micarta handle. And not a spot of discoloration anywhere...

Do one ton 4WD diesel pickups make 2WD half ton pickups obsolete? Did the Z06 Corvette make the Honda Civic obsolete?

High performance is great but economics and practicality have their place and in many cases they trump pure performance.
What you said!

Re: Am i just lucky with my super steels?

No one has discussed one of the most important aspects of sharpening,,, observation of the apex. I really like and rely on a 10X eye loop to observe the very small rolled edge or wire edge which is sometimes a frustrating component of very sharp knives. My first introduction to ZDP-189 for example,...

Re: Pocket wear, Native 5 Lightweight

I was getting enough wear from my Natives i picked up a couple of lanyards. No further issues (nless you HATE lanyards of course!) Oddly my enduras have not given me any notable issues. I am going to take this opportunity to say "just buy a maxamet knife." :D

Re: CPM REX 86

We should be asking Spyderco to make more knives in Rex 45 boys. Stay focused :D I agree, but only if they give the PM2 and Para 3 the same treatment as the Military. I don't know why the Military was run higher(66 hrc) than the other 2. I would love to get my hands on a REX45 spydie! There are sti...

Re: Favorite Steels

Honestly after a few months, i want a maxamet version of pretty much every Spyderco! I have "tough knives" i got some A2 and a couple bos treated bucks. But this maxamet is almost unnatural in the fact it is easier to sharpen than my S110V but it just freaking cuts forever! Maxamet is my favorite. Z...
