Re: Replaceable blade folding mule

As I'm not really interested in the UKPK (too small), let me post here. From Sal's comment above, it doesn't feel like a Mule folder would make business sense. Now: 1) I have a couple (non-Spyderco) folders that can easily be field-assembled/disassembled. These are Ti frame-locks, typically. 2) One...

Re: Police 4 Observations

After seeing all this I am thinking about sending my P4 off to get cerakoted. Just the internal parts. Liners, backlock and what not. Is this a viable solution? I am not so interested in getting the blade done as patina does not bother me. But would definitely consider getting it done as well. And ...

Re: K390 IS "The M4 Killer"

I thought 3v was supposed to be the "killer". Yet, m4 still here. If you're into bushcraft things, like chopping and batoning, 3V is an M4 killer. For every other use, it is inferior. 3V has less edge retention and less edge stability than M4. Here we go again with the 3V bashing... That...

Re: Will there be more Rex 45?

A bit of random info. In Michael Christy's rex 45 video, someone commented that they rockwell tested their Para 2 rex 45 and got 66.5 hrc. This matches the number Sal mentioned a while back. In that video he says that persons knife tested at 64 hrc. Yes, within the video he is referring to a post b...

Re: Will there be more Rex 45?

I would love a Manix in Rex45, so long as it's at 66.5 HRC we got in the Militarys. If it's 64, like the PM2 and Para 3 were(from accounts I've read), I'll pass. According to Ankerson's testing, the Rex45 Military had better edge retention than the K390 Mule, by 20 rope cuts. I'm not sure how close ...

Re: Mulling over the Mule

And this leads to my next question on this very topic: IF Spyderco were to decide to start up the Mule program again, when it comes to the fixed blades, would you want them to use the same basic blade shape/pattern as before, or, would you want to see them experiment with other shapes? For example,...

Re: Mulling over the Mule

There are many factors that affected the Mule Team project. 1. They were all sold consumer direct at low margins to keep the cost low to the Steel Junky's. This meant fairly low volumes. 2. They were sold without sheaths or handles for the most part which also kept the cost low and our inventory is...

Re: Mulling over the Mule

Fixed mule is not out of the question, I just don't want everyone to get stuck on the form right now, since some want a folder and some want a fixed blade. This is just to gauge whether or not people are interested in a mule style knife. Everyone wants something different. Fixed, slip joint, locking...

I would try a strop first. No need to remove steel prematurely.

Wouldn't a bent tip just gouge the leather?
Not in my experience. I've stropped that kind of damage out before, with no issues.

Re: Mulling over the Mule

I have to agree there's a lot of unspoken variables for me to just jump on the bandwagon. I bought the fixed blade mules and would buy more if they kept making them. I bought the steels I wanted to try. I put the knives through their paces and developed my opinion on what I liked. It was a great wa...

Well, image didn't work. :(

Manix 2 LW S90V. It's been sharing time with the Rex 45 Military for the last month. Everything else is just collecting dust for the time being.

Mulling over the Mule

This is a continuation of the Mule thread. Let's forget the fixed blade mule for now, and pretend the mule is based on whichever platform seems best(there will be another poll for that one later.), would you buy one? There will be another poll for which type of knife you would like to see the Mule i...

Re: Mule Team

The other problem I see is the low likelihood of us all agreeing. Some want one model, some want another. Some want one lock, some want another. Maybe a separate thread, with a poll about locking vs non-locking vs fixed? Maybe even a 2nd thread afterward, with a 2nd poll, for which model people wou...

Re: Mule Team

It's already been said, but anything with a lock will mean UK residents will be excluded from this, due to their ridiculous laws. UKPK would allow them to purchase "mules", which would open up a portion of the market that sees very little in the way of special steels. Unless we see a Para 3 slip joi...

Re: Edge Journal: M4

Interesting. Aside from a decline in initial sharpness, how much of a decline have you seen in overall edge retention?

Re: K390 IS "The M4 Killer"

I want a Golden knife in K390. Perhaps the new Native Chief would be a good model to use K390 in. I know that the Manix 2 would be a perfect choice for K390 and I have my checkbook waiting on this, if it ever happens. The idea of this combo makes me giddy. I'd love a Chief in K390, with peel ply CF...
