Re: FRN/Lightweights: I just can’t get into them

I have a question that might sound a little strange. How does the FRN (or any of the LW for that matter) sound when the blade is popped open. I ask as that was one of the things that turned me off on the Benchmade Griptilian, the sound it made when opened. The Seki knives (excluding the Salts becau...

Re: Would like suggestions on Spyderco's to look at next

G10 Manix sounds like a good fit. Not a huge knife, but definitely not a small knife. A different kind of lock, with a similar feel to the axis lock from Benchmade that you are already familiar with. The cbbl is a rare find on Spyderco's. Also, you can get a Manix in some of the same premium steels...

sorry i am holding out on a rex 45 g10 variant.
I'm hoping Cutlery Shoppe does a run of orange/od green Manix with Rex 45, along with the orange/blue and the same combos for the PM2. My Para 3 needs some friends.

Re: 100% of people agree on this one thing!

I don't mind the ranger green. I would prefer this in a LW version. But let me ask a question- would you prefer 10V over K390? It read that it runs at a higher RC. Sorry, I thought I responded here, but I guess not. As far as 10V vs K390 and their hrc numbers; the K390 PM2 and 10V PM2 had almost id...

Re: FRN/Lightweights: I just can’t get into them

I'm like you, I don't care much for frn...but, I do have to say in my opinion and a few others that I've read...knives out of Seki, that frn is just different than knives out of Golden (which are my personal favorites). At one time I had a Manix LW, Native LW and Para 3 like you but I ended up sell...

Re: Dentless in Tucson

A backlock knife is all but impossible to close one handed anyway, as we have discussed at length elsewhere, so I don't see any liability in not being able to feel blind for the "sweet spot". I close all of my Spyderco back locks one-handed all the time. It’s not difficult at all, whether they have...

I don't recall where exactly in the video he tests the uncoated blades, but this appears to be the video I mentioned. I would expect soft thick coatings like cerakote to cause lower readings, as was sh...

Re: What happened to the Boye Dent?

I prefer it. If nothing else, it's at least more comfortable to actuate a back lock with a Boye Dent. The indexing is nice too. Absolutely. I really, really wish the Chap had one. I don't seem to miss it as much on the Native, but I was very surprised to see the dentless design of the Rockjumper. T...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

If you haven't already, try the sharpie trick. Mark the entire edge (both sides), so you can see where the stone is making contact. If you had no results trying to remove the burr, you probably weren't hitting it. The white stone should work well enough on VG10, for removing a burr. You could use t...

. ... The M390 PM2 is my "highly stainless, but not quite rust proof steel", that holds an edge well, sharpens easily, and has been tough enough for anything I've needed it for. ... Do you find M390 to be more stainless than S90V? Or maybe it’s just the way you wrote this that makes it seem so. Loo...

Re: What happened to the Boye Dent?

I'm really bummed about the move away from dents and jimping. The Lil' Native is another one where the lack of these caused me to sell mine. I am interested in the upcoming Lil Native LW (presumably a backlock salt?), but if they stick with no jimping and boye dent then I'll stick with my Dragonfli...

I prefer it. If nothing else, it's at least more comfortable to actuate a back lock with a Boye Dent. The indexing is nice too. A lot of people dislike it, and I thought Spyderco found it unnecessary on some models, because they were able to make the lock press travel longer, to prevent the lock fro...

Re: Will the ARK fit my needs?

retention stayed the same. before and after the mod I could draw it without pressing the release button. Is it a pre-CQI version? I don't think so. AFAIK pre-CQI didn't have that index release button. With the level of retention mine showed I think they need CQI2. Its one of the reasons I don't car...

Re: October and Rex45 aka RexTober!

It was going to be my Para 3 this month, and I might still use it a bunch, but the Shaman called to me this morning. Probably because I've been carrying a Manix 2 so much lately. Anyway, it's time for this neglected beauty to get some use! https://i.postimg.cc/CxwLy1fF/20201001-100443.jpg Is it wie...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

Guys, I need your help. My new VG10 Delica arrived with somewhat toothy factory edge (I see it in the light) , and I can feel the burr on one side of the edge. Passed it a couple of times on fine Sharpmaker rods on 30 degrees, but nothing happened. I remember Sals video where he says to use 40 degr...

Re: Will the ARK fit my needs?

If I used an Ark for trout cleaning, it would end up roughly like this. https://i.postimg.cc/TP7D6skP/ark-TROUT-mod.jpg paring knife shaped. I like that too! I'm feeling motivated, after seeing vivi's modifications and your rendering. It almost makes me want a couple more, just to experiment with.

Re: We’ve got the Military, the Civilian... but would a Spyderco Politician be a good idea?

The idea of a crooked blade is interesting. To me, the idea of straight, efficient cuts, just feels soulless and boring. No one likes a knife that's straight to the point.
