Re: Why all the Manix love?

Speaking of the manix, are they behind on production because of covid or something? I was thinking of picking one up from the SFO for a bday present for my brother. Standard PE g10, blacked out g10, blurple g10, and blacked out LW all sold out. Not mad or anything, I'm just surprised that they are s...

So it's on bearings and pinned? Yikes. I'm not super interested in the design anyway, but if I was, I wouldn't be now.

Re: Just saying hello

If you're active duty military, veteran or first responder the opfocus discount (50% of MSRP) is great. If memory serves it was relatively painless to enroll as well. Otherwise expect to pay MAP (70% of MSRP) at a reputable dealer. If it's significantly less than MAP it is likely counterfeit. Except...

Re: Para 3 liners wtb

Welcome to the forum! AFAIK the only parts kits made were for the Delica & Endura, and I haven’t seen one of those for years. I don’t know if any aftermarket scales delete the liners on the P3 - if so, you might find some for sale. The liners are part of the lock so I doubt it. If I needed liners I...

Re: New here & just bought 3 knives

Welcome! You seem to have jumped in with both feet! I would make suggestions, but you've already done pretty much what I would have recommended. You've picked a good variety of different sizes, blade steels, blade thickness, lock types and even a couple of different handle materials. This should giv...

Re: Spyderco kitchen knives?

I would like it if Spyderco offered a standard European style chefs knife. They did, kinda. It was the K12. It was a bit over 7", so not a full 10" monster. But, it's close to what you're wanting. Yeah I missed the boat on those. It was discontinued right around the time I was last in market for a ...

Re: Slim or none?

Other Chinese makers like Reate use S35VN, RWL34 and M390 in their knives. It does bump up the price considerably, but it shows that China isn't limited to 8Cr and related steels. It's not that no one in China can use better steel, it's just the factories Spyderco uses either don't have the capabil...

Re: Have Titanium and Micarta Handles Become Extinct?

I would feel better about micarta's long term prospects if they would offer it on a regular production model. All of the micarta has been on sprints or exclusives as far as I can tell. Even with the IMMENSE popularity of the Cru Carta shaman, they didn't make the zwear/micarta regular production, ju...

Re: Slim or none?

Ah my mistake, I don't know why I was thinking the Astute was made in Seki. I probably will get the base model soon. And I know the numerous calls for an upgraded Tenacious have gone unanswered. That's why I figured an upgraded Astute would be highly unlikely, but it's still fun to consider. And in...

Re: Spyderco Dragonfly 2 Maxamet Edition?

Big fan of the dragonfly, and I'd like to see it, but I doubt it for the reasons Accutron detailed above.

There is thankfully a good variety of steels readily available on the platform. Vg10, h1, hap40 (knifecenter exclusive but they restock), zdp and k390. Fairly frequent sprints as well.

Re: Native Chief LW FRN

I'm surprised some seem to be against the idea of a frn chief being made. I wonder what their reasoning is. I don't think the OP was suggesting it replace the g10 version. And the poll doesn't ask if you'd BUY an frn version, just if you'd like too see one. Do they just not want Spyderco to offer kn...

I don’t mean to be obtuse, but what is the value proposition?
How much I like a knife vs how much I had to pay for it. The more I spend on a knife the fewer "faults" I'm willing to put up with. The new clip will probably increase my enjoyment of the knife but at a corresponding increase in price.

Re: Clips you don’t like do not constitute a fatal flaw

What is a fatal flaw for me might be a selling point for someone else. I really don't like the clip on the kapara. The light spring tension combined with the smooth scales and the length of the knife makes it jump out of my pocket. I've never had this issue with another knife. Consequently I rarely ...

Re: The Watu, the lil' Nilakka, and why thin grinds matter.

Man, I really need to pick up a watu. Also, more 2mm and 2.5mm blades please. I know thick stock can cut, but as Wartstein pointed out, thinly ground thin stock cuts better than thinly ground thick stock. I understand that some folks put their folders to "hard use", but not everyone needs or wants t...

Re: Spyderco Lock Type Preference

For me back lock > ball bearing > liner > comp > frame lock. Mid Back and BBL are ambidextrous, have close bias, and are easily open/closed one handed. I prefer the back lock mostly because of familiarity. I like a good liner lock slightly better than a comp lock because I find comp locks more awkwa...
