Re: Any interest in more Phil Wilson collaboration?

Yes, but not if it's made in China. I would rather spend the extra and have it made in Taichung. If I have the choice, I won't buy a Chinese made product. Taiwan(otherwise known as the Republic of China) is still under Chinese(People's Republic of China) control. Whether or not mainland China takes...

Re: Any interest in more Phil Wilson collaboration?

If Taiwan can pull off the Ronin 2 for $100, how would you feel about a Phil Wilson design built with similar materials? Great point, Vivi! Thanks. I do agree with several others that a mid-range Phil Wilson design might be best and that Taiwan (probably not the Taichung maker) might provide the be...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

Beautiful! Are you in the Pacific Northwest? Thanks, Ju! Indeed. About fifteen years ago we built a very rustic cabin (gas and wood stove, haul water in, graywater sink out, pit toilet) on the West End of the Olympic Peninsula near La Push and Rialto beach on the Sol Duc River. My partner's grandpa...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

We were out at our cabin in the rainforest for a few days. The Crucarta Shaman has been a steady companion. solduc_shaman_garberg.jpg IMG_20191226_130054.jpg We have the wonderful fortune of having a spot on the River that's just a few miles from some pretty wild coast on the edge of the continent. ...

Re: Linerless: Any issues?

Thanks for the feedback on linerless Spydies. Like I said, I've never had a problem. With that being said, I haven't put them through hard use like Lance has. Spyderco has been making linerless models for a long time. I guess if there was an issue we would know by now. I will continue to enjoy my l...

Stretch 2
I think I remember strongly recommending the Stretch 2 to you earlier this year and you were hesitant. Glad you came around-- I think it's an ergonomic genius design.

It's the only 'humped' Spyder that I really love. I generally prefer the 'humpless' Natives and SpydieChef.

Re: Help me choose a big folder: Shaman vs. Li'l Temperance 3 vs. Manix 2 Mid-backlock vs. ATR 2 vs. Caribbean

Of those, I would probably go with the Shaman or Manix 2 mid-backlock. The Caribbean is not gonna be discreet unless you dye the handle, though it is a cool knife. The Caribbean has the longest edge of the bunch. The Shaman carries smaller than I thought it would, but it is heavier than the other ch...

Solstice Greetings to all! We're turning 'the corner' on day length now, regardless of hemisphere. I, for one, am very happy for the longer days to come and looking forward to winter and skiing. You southern hemisphere folks (Bloke, Camber, Standy, Tims, Doc? and whoever I've forgotten), enjoy your ...

Re: The pronunciation of "Bowie"

It's a tomato/tomato thing. In KY you know who's local and who's not by how they say Louisville. How do the locals say it? With the "S" sound? It's the same way with a town close to where I live: Versailles, Missouri. It's pronounced how it looks in English. Lots of French place names but not so mu...

Re: Reground and RE HEAT TREATED Slysz Bowie

The edge would chip or roll on cutting open plastic packaging, no matter how often I resharpened it. UCI testing then revealed overheated steel in the lower blade area from the factory grinding - as with so many knives. Usually it is not that bad with Spyderco though that a few sharpenings could no...

Josh, I'm with you. Mine arrived today too, and I'm not sure what to think. The similarities to the PM2 (albeit as a backlock) are compelling. I sold my previous Stretch 1 FRN. But this one is definitely interesting to me. So we'll see. I can tell you I like it a lot better then my Stretch 1. Feels...
