I think Sal's got a good point. Whenever I needed the serrations, it was for biting into something challenging like thick rope or PU tubing. I need the bite at the base of the blade. I can choke up for finer work.

...tip up, blade spine against pants seam. Only reason is for comfort. In tip down configuration and blade facing towards my body, the thumb choil jimping roughs up my right hand too much everytime I reach into my pocket for keys, coins, etc.. Carrying tip up solves the problem.

I've used both in harsh conditions, and nothing comes close to a serrated edge for work.

Orange millies are out for sale, or are the scales custom?

When cutting dirty rope or bull hose my experience was opposite. The SE cut much more easilly where the PE didn't get much purchase to bite through.
