Help identify older spyderco

I'm sure plenty of people here will know right away what this is. I looked through the list at spydie.nl but couldn't find anything exactly like it. AUS8 blade, Seki-City, orange (FRN?) handle, and the older plastic clip. Looks sort of like the Mariner or Rescue.

I believe the word you were looking for is intuitive. :D

Great posts btw. I used my thumb to feel the edge of an older knife, and the edge of a new spyderco, and they both felt sharp, but only the spyderco would actually take the hair off my arm.

Restrict control or ban some type of weapon, and if firearms are off the table, then the next logical choice are knives/impact weapons (most of which have been restricted already) and the like.

Pretty soon we're down to walking sticks and bits of sturdy cardboard. Maybe we should start a forum ...

This legislation is idiotic. The only people that are going to be affected by this are those who wanted to purchase knives for legitimate, legal purposes. Do they really think punk kids are going to start saying, "Aww, if only they hadn't passed that darn law, I'd be able to rob the liquor store ...

8Cr13Mov vs VG-10 test

I saw this post from December 2007 on CutleryScience, comparing the edge retention of 8Cr13Mov (byrd meadowlark) to VG-10 (delica). Ignore the first two graphs - they were done with the knives unsharpened and/or at different angles of sharpening. The interesting graphs are in the last post at the ...

You'd think they would advertise it more, or just offer their products at the normal low prices. They probably lose more business from thrifty shoppers than they get from customers with plenty of disposable income.

At gander, talk to the dept manager, tell him the price is too high, that you want to buy it, but only if they match the price you can get it for online. The guy I talk to in the local gander will match real prices. I can bring in an ad for something on line, with shipping buy no tax and he will ...

It looks like it was islandtactical.com. They're based in Las Vegas. The page isn't up now (or hasn't been for a while?) but here is an archived version of the page from May 2007.

I'm reading through this short but informative guide to knife defense and fighting as learned from doing time in Folsom Prison . This guy considers trying to slash with a knife useless in a real fight; the only thing that you can count on being able to do is to stab, making the Civilian or Harpy ...

Anyone actually use a spyderco in SD?

I've tried searching but couldn't find any examples of people actually using their :spyder: in real self-defense situations. Does anyone have any stories to tell?

Or maybe these situations are actually extremely rare and we all should just sell off our SD knives and stop worrying... :D

I'm also planning to get an SS D4 combo edge and get it engraved as a gift. I like my FRN D4 a lot, but after trying to disassemble/reassemble it, I found the FRN to not be as sturdy as I'd like in some places (where it was made very thin). You can either call it stupidity on my part or a weakness ...
