Re: Farid releases K2 customs in Rex 121
The K2 is a super simple construction anyway, even if I were to make it with simpler materials other than say titanium the 'labour' would still be the same, so what are we gaining here ? I still have to spend the same amount of time building the knife regardless of if it is with titanium handle or s...

Re: Farid releases K2 customs in Rex 121
Just to be clear all the new 4" K2's are D3 tool steel blades right now and not REX 121 as mentioned on the web site, also these are full hand made custom knives and not mid tech, I do not yet make mid tech.

Re: Spyderco/Farid K2
A question to you Farid: Did you sharpen the K2 before performing your edge retention test you showed us? I seriously wouldn't mind as I usually never use factory edge, but this time I tried to check how factory edge fare after some cardboard cutting and light wood whittling but am far from you res...

Re: Spyderco/Farid K2
I do believe with CPM®-10v after using it extensively it is the most wear resistant tool steel which still holds a hair popping sharpness for a long time, there are higher alloys (carbide) steels out there but they just won’t hold a hair popping sharpness, 10v is the highest alloy tool steel which I...

Re: Spyderco/Farid K2
The detent on mine is not weak. It's perfect. The lock is sticky though. I have high expectations with these Taichung Spydies because they've been so good but when I get a knife that is very hard to close I can't be that positive on it. Your average non-knife person would probably not be able to cl...

Re: Spyderco/Farid K2
15 years ago or there about the knife industry was really different from today. There were not many of the performance oriented sprints yet. Spyderco hadn't really made them a household name yet. I used to research the steels that looked really interesting to me on the internet. That is when I firs...

Re: Spyderco/Farid K2
Sal's custom K2 and the 10v production version, this custom K2 is the very first generation which means it has alot more curve on top of the blade, the profile of the blade right now is the same as the REX K2 which has alot less curve on the top. http://i615.photobucket.com/albums/tt235/hardsteel-/P...

Re: Spyderco/Farid K2
Just a little more info on the K2, how it came about. Many years ago I was drawing different blade shapes just experimenting with different bowie shapes, I wanted to design a folder which could do most jobs very well, out of many I chose one and kept the drawing. I didn't take it any further and nev...

Re: Spyderco/Farid K2
[...] I don't see them getting even close to the 1000 yard mark or even close. Again, the behavior is nonlinear, small changes in the end point of final sharpness produce very large changes in the stopping point of amount of material cut. By the time you have cut ~250 m of cardboard the rate of dul...

Re: Spyderco/Farid K2
I decided to take the K2 to Gary’s (fluffy) who is a dear friend and also my osteopath and test it in the garden, I did the best I can considering I cannot stand for long after my surgery on my leg. My friend Gary has in his collection an S-90v custom version and we thought we leave it on the table...
