Re: Tip of folding knife is exposed and cuts me
Are my eyes deceiving me or could what looks like a lanyard be blocking the blade from closing?

BUT,WHY?
I understand certain models have to go but I was shocked they discontinued the ceramic benchstones. They have been a mainstay in the line for decades.

Re: Can't Seem to Form a Burr
I seem to be in some sort of slump right now, everything I have been trying to sharpen is taking FOREVER! I don't know if it is just because it was very dull, but I tried sharpening a Cuisinart paring knife with my 140 grit diamond plate and had to pause on it because I ran out of time. Maybe I am j...

Re: Sharpening Maxamet?
This was my 1st attempt at sharpening Maxamet and I don't consider myself a "sharpener". I'm learning slowly, one of the big things that helped me was stop worrying about ruining it or scratching up something that's made to get beat up. It's not the prettiest edge in the world but my good...

Re: micro-beveling - when to reprofile?
I just started what I call incremental reprofiling.Mostly on my steak knives because they get the most damage from plates. This is alluded to in the Sharpmaker instructions as back bevelling.Every other sharpening cycle I put the diamond rods in the 15 degree setting and knock the shoulders back or I...

Re: Confused about the Sharpmaker
I do a hybrid system of using a coarse hone to reprofile and then do the final edge on the Sharpmaker. A couple years back I bought the diamond rods and use them to back bevel.Even when I don't fully apex just knocking the shoulders down makes a marked improvement in slicing ability. If you do this r...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Smooooooooth..... How are the corners on your Diamond rods holding up? Please school me.I thought somewhere I read(heard) that they didn't advise using the corners on the diamonds or am I misrememberiing. The corners on the diamond or CBN rods are the best way to reprofile an SE edge. You need to t...

My theory is that the fiberglass in the nylon inhibits wear to any appreciable amount.

Re: Can I sharpen steel x with a Sharpmaker? The answer is yes!
I love the Sharpmaker but I wouldn't dream of reprofiling with it.I thin the edge out on a coarse benchstone until I burr it both sides and the transition to the Sharpmaker to microbevel.I know this might not satisfy those who don't want to freehand it but is my technique.

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
People, Have any on you tried reprofiling a VG10 Delica to 15 dps with standard Sharpmaker stones (medium, fine)? From info I got, standard factory angle is cca 17dps. Looking whether to do it or not, depending on how long it would take. Also, would it make sense to sticky this thread? I’ve reprofi...

Exactly how durable is the ball cage on the Manix 2 line of knives? Any breakage of the spring guide rod?

Re: First time sharpening with sharpmaker and need help
One way to check for even bevels is to use a hard plastic barrel of a pen.No graphics or ridges that could produce false results.Hold pen at 45 degree angle and check at different spots along the left side and then the left.If there is a burr it will slide down meaning burr is facing the opposite si...

Aus-8 and Rust
I have a Gen 1? Endura, integral clip,in Aus-8 that i've owned for about 23 years. In the last 2 years it has started to get a couple spots of rust beginning. It never cuts food or wet stuff.I keep it wiped down with a Tufcloth and have attacked the spots with flitz but eventually they come back.I'm no...

I never had the problem myself I've heard other people had luck with, the blade open, putting firm side pressure on blade to bind pivot and trying to unscrew it.
