I nominate this line for Thought of the Week. Thanx, alexvzin, for the smile! :D Granted I lack Russian skills, and the English used on the international Russian board in question still had enough non-English parts to make me question-mark my reading of the messages in question. But the impression ...

obligatory pointer to ancient lore :)
Hi, there's also the old pre-y2k thread Joe Talmadge started on BladeForums on sharpening BM's axis lock folders. These folders feature a slight recurve, which offers pretty much the same problems as the sharpening a hawkbill. Joe also likes to keep roughen the tip-side of the recurve for some tooth...

strikes from below?
Hi, finally had some time to see the video. And I cannot help but wonder about the final strikes from below, which seem to be against the handle instead of the handle-side of the blade. In general, as long as you only hit the blade itself, and the handle isn't really "restricted", the lock...

once in a while, there _IS_ a worthwhile granton
+1 The Yin and Yang kick German butt with light saber efficiency partly because of their thinner blades. I'd disagree: +1 for the largest of Solingen serrated bread knives. If it's a real monster of a crusty bread, why not show it some respect and pull out Conan's sturdy ole 12" bread slayer. ...

wire edge, anyone?
check the current vg10 sharpening thread for hints. I'd say you've probably caught yourself some wire-edge that you need to remove before proper sharpening.

military_cf/06.jpg (FYI it can get even bit closer to the scale with tightening the pivot) You should mention the knife type in the text as well  Assuming that you've placed your image in the correct folder, try loosening/tighening the first screw on the back of the Mili near the pivot. Learn...

it worked - even with that hair, given support and very advanced optics
Press a finely polished blade into the portion of the hair over your index finger, at about a 45-degree angle, away from the end you are pinching. Thanx for the description. With the polished high-angled small blade on a victorinox I could do it even with what I call my hair. Large enough evidence ...

I wanted to share some of the reasoning behind the choices made in the production of the Barong and the Khukuri. @Ed: given the chance to ask the man himself: what where the reasons for not retaining the sharp recurve section of the khukuri (after the belly)? The prototype only has a full-thickness...

??any?? hair for this trick
All that's necessary for hair-whittling is absolute sharpness at the edge bevel. If the edge is a couple microns thick there is no reason for it not to whittle a ~50-micron-thick hair, just like how you can probably cut any vegetable with the edge of a metal ruler. Hmmm. My hair begs to differ and ...

Ed's tests and speciality blade designs?
My bet is that Ed Schempp will have some interesting tests for sharpness, due to his expertise in producing and using specialty blades for cutting competitions. References for Ed's speciality blades - currently I've found only this thread: http://spyderco.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28995&page=...

You are not off to a good start here because you have scared all of the CCers (Cardboard Cutters) with their FFG into hiding in the corners. :D Yep, it needs guys like Tomahawk to balance all of us flat-grounders :) . My VG-10 folders have remained completely rust free, but my Yang kitchen knife rusts like crazy. In case you do not wish to return the yang for an exchange: If that's surface-layer only (say from sawing+grinding immediately after a run of non-stainless steel *), did you try to go over the surface w...

levels of spyderedge - just don't start with a Cricket
Surprise: for me, the Tenacious is a good fit. Quality, copper washer :) and everything was a good surprise (if I had taken a better look at the images and ordered PE instead of CE). My first spyderedge was a Cricket . You know: thin grind and edge, serration shallow to medium with not that much of ...
