Out of a growing number of Spyderco's my Calypso JR lightweight PE is still the preferred EDC. Very light, grippy, and sharp.

My first Spyderco was an FRN delica with the molded clip (2 years ago?). I put it in a POCK-ITS pouch with a Leatherman Super Tool and a Maglite and there it sat. I guess about 9 months ago I bought a Michael Walker lightweight and replaced my Gerber EZ Out as EDC. Thats what got me hooked. Its a sm...

Mundele/Matt

Thank you for the info. I went to the link you posted (very interesting). I think all the changes you mentioned were on the money.
I was happy to see that they all seemed to be minor refinements. The older version is just as tough as the new models.
thanks again......Mike

OK

I'm answering my own post. I saw on the Spyderco history page that the Military came out in 1996, and was modified in 1998. I would have to assume then that the clip was changed to a 3 screw in 1998. Were there any other significant changes that anyone knows about?

I'm 41. Had various cheap pocket knives while growing up. While in the USAF for 20 years I usually carried my trusty Buck folding hunter, a Leatherman, or a Gerber Multi-Plier. Just recently I got the Spyderco bug, and now 22 Spyderco's later I'm on the lookout for my next one.

Toolin I have seen this question come up here before. They use lower cost steels in the stainless steel handle knives to bring the unit cost down. The combination of the more expensive handle material, additional finishing required, and the more expensive blade material push the cost of the knife up...

Questions on used Military model

Hi all

I finally got a Military. It was used but in excellent condition. This particular knife is in ATS-34, has engraved info on blade, and has a 2 screw stainless clip.

Can anyone tell me when this one was made?

Stare I guess you are right. I think in my terms of what I use the knife for daily, which is light office/home stuff. To someone who needs a knife for heavier, maybe outdoor chores the Endura might seem a better deal. I'm going to the Lake of the Ozarks this weekend and I will certainly be busting o...

The Calypso JR lightweight was a favorite on an EDC thread. I also think it's the definite "most bang for the buck". I've been trying to dull mine (within reason)but it's still scary sharp, and I like the way it looks and handles.

Blades Yeah you just feel more in control with that grippy texture on both sides of the knife. To me the Dragonfly is almost too small to clip to the pocket. It does not hang in very far and I fear losing it. I just think it's a nice sized pocket-dropper and it would be great clipless, in FRN, with ...

Thanks for the movie info. VampyreWolf really must see it. Do pay close attention to the weapons turn in scene.

VampyreWolf Yes I saw your massive carry pile in a previous post. You must work in a knife friendly environment. Kind of reminds me of when Mel Gibson turned in his weapons in the movie Thunderdome. Remember that scene? Chinook Thats too bad about the clip on your Goddard. Maybe they should have sta...

Stare I really have not used mine yet. I got them at closeout/discontinued price also so I just could not say no. It's too big for me to use as an EDC. People in my office would have a heart attack. I like the blade shape, and the handle seems sturdy for all its slimness. Maybe I will tote it huntin...

I have not seen one of the carbon fiber Dragonfly's. Sounds like a nice piece. I do like the clips on my larger knives, but sometimes you just want a little pocket dropper. Is the almite Walker really light?

Blades

Yes of course it's removeable!! if I want to hack, or grind it off, but as Dav also failed to note in my initial post I would prefer to have the "volcano grip" on both sides. I like my Spyderco"s for their quality and aesthetics. I don't plan on chopping one of mine up.

I guess maybe I was not specific enough. I was referring to the FRN Dragonfly. This model has an integral molded clip. It's not removable.

I noticed in a previous post that you carry the Wayne Goddard lightweight. I recently bought 2 of them because they were reasonably priced. One to stash and one to use. What do you think of it? I have not seen any posts referring to it.

Sal - Clipless Dragonfly?

Sal I know you get a million suggestions, I'm almost sorry to ask. Had you ever thought of a clipless Dragonfly? When I carry mine I never use the clip just drop it in my pocket. A slimmer clipless version would be more pocket friendly, and it would be nice to feel the volcano grip on both sides. Mike

Until recently I used to think that Spyderco knives were expensive. now 20 Spyderco's later I have a great appreciation for their quality. I carry one or two every day. In my limited experience I find them to be sharper out of the box than other brands, and fit&finish has always been great. I re...

Thanks for all the replies.
I think a military will be next on my list of Spyderco's to acquire. I can't argue with extremely satisfied owners. The Military and the Calypso JR always seem to be the top 2 favorites amongst Spyderco owners, and I have a much loved Calypso JR already.
