Re: Your views on machetes?

I'm a big fan of Cold Steel machetes. They have tons of different sizes and shapes. They are cheap while having a good heat treat and a sheath. They have molded on handles like Spyderco fixed blades. No wood to warp, crack or loosen from the rivets. They work. I use a few of theirs for clearing brus...

Re: Neat thing about those Pacific Salts

That's weird. It certainly is a magnetic steel. Good to know! I have no idea why it happens. I may pick up a cheap metal detector wand and wave it over my pockets with different knives clipped to it. Not something to try at TSA checkpoints though, where you’re 50/50 going to be sent through a metal...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

Police4 on my weekly hike at work. It is developing quite the patina and in the background are enough stinging nettles to feed me all summer. https://i.imgur.com/LxLOMjih.jpg Does your P4 still patina for you on a hot summer day or do you see rust spots? I decided to retire mine until things cool o...

That's awesome news. Mr. Janich is a great guy. Glad to see his designs receiving recognition.

Neat thing about those Pacific Salts

They don't set off metal detectors I've been through.

I've carried mine into amusement parks, concerts, NBA games etc. Never set one off.

Obviously don't do something stupid with this info like carry one into court, but it's nice for a day at six flags or something.

Re: a painful lesson relearned

Been trading buying and selling knives via USPS for 20 years without issue. Even mailed and received cash for low value sales, no issues.

Sorry to hear you've run into problems. Sounds frustrating.

Re: CBBL, Compression lock, and other lock preferences

The cbbl and complock can easily be closed one handed without ever putting fingers in the blade path, while the back lock is much more difficult to do the same (though letting the choil or riccosso drop onto the index finger before pulling all fingers out of the blade path and closing the rest of t...

Re: CBBL, Compression lock, and other lock preferences

There are only two locktypes in my Spyderco collection, lockback and cbbl. Other locks aren't safe enough for my carry methods (stop lock and powerlock might work for me but I haven't tried em yet). I like to carry folders tip up IWB when I'm in running shorts, which is most days 4 months out of the...

Re: AFI Performance Flash Batch

Centofante 3 is fairly close to what you guys are asking for here, stock. I used a krein reground Centofante as an EDC for a summer with no issues. I’ve looked at those. I just wish the grind was higher. Edit:How much does a regrind typically cost for a knife like this? $30-40 back then. He did rea...

VG-10? No thanks. I think we need higher hardness and greater edge stability.

Re: What to do if someone tries to rob you with a knife?

I'd run, even if I had my handgun on me. Best case scenario, who wants to go through the headache of court? Worst case scenario, he closes the distance before you draw and fire, and it's night night. There's no shame in running from a physical altercation on the streets. There's no honor code out th...

My vampire *** is carrying these tonight.

I was thinking about the Swick 5 recently and decided to carry my 3. Wonder what the status of that model is? Still really excited for that and the FFG Pacific Salts.

Re: "HRC as advertised." Who is accurately listing HRC?

As some have said here earlier. HRC, is not the be-all end-all. But it is a piece of the puzzle. Some who ask for it, or see that number. Might not know how to fully process it from there. So many variables. But if we do get an HRC range, from a manufacturer. Say 58-60, and the blade ends up scorin...

Re: Emphasis

Looks like a really practical design. If I preferred a liner lock to a lockback I'd be all over this, but as it stands I'll order a Chief. I may buy some of these to gift the way I've done with Cara Caras though. I think most folks find liner locks more intuitive to close one handed. To anyone who t...

Re: Bad design choice?

That BHK you posted is intended as a bushcraft/survival knife. Not sure if that is the Scout Platoon or Highlander? I have thought about getting a Highlander in the past but never did. They may have left a little guard for safety. That blade shape is just based on old trade knives and has been done...
