Thanks for your thorough answers! It is the length of edge required to cut a given cord under a specific load. The cord has to be very thin to minimize the effect of shape and maximize the influence of the nature of the apex. Initially the travel was set at 0.5 cm for optimal and I had planned on 25...

Hi Cliff, This is a very interesting table indeed! I have a few question and a few comments I hope you can help me understand better. First, would you mind explaining your definition of sharpness a bit more? What is the unit of sharpness? I first guessed it's the length of the edge needed to cut the...

It's been ages since I last felt the need to log in, but for such an important cause - here we go! If the choil has to be deepened, Caly 3 is a perfect role model. No thanks for straight spine modification! It serves no function, but would decrease the useability and chip away on the identity of the...

Does this knife fit into the fifth pocket of jeans? I favor clips but if I could stuff this into the watch pocket, that might serve.

Hi Sal, Thanx for your reply! Should have guessed there are obstacles on that course too... Still, tooling for longer, pointier blade might boost the sales as that was one of the most often heard complaints with the original design, along the slippines and weight of the steel handle, that is. One ca...

Would it be possible to extend the blade a little while making the sprint run? If the handle is the same shape as the original, there's room for a longer, pointier blade with slightly less pronounced belly. ...And while we're at it, blade steel variations wouldn't hurt either! Not that there's anyth...

I like the idea of flamed Ti w. ZDP-189! Is it needed? Of course not, a plane FRN & VG 10 combo would do the job just fine. But the thing is, we're not talking about a knife that we need but a knife that we want. Being a form over function fellow, I'm having tough time in justifying spending mor...

My preferences in priority order: Super Blue, G10, Preferably original quirky blade shape but a leaf would also do. Not too keen on straight spine out of aesthetic reasons. G10 I'd prefer over FRN only because I've found it more bothersome to cook my own handle slabs on top of FRN liners.

Hi Sal, I have a question regarding the sharp corner in Nilakka's handle next to the locking liner: does the liner have to be nested in the G10 slab? If it were not, the G10 would be two times thicker there and hence the possible hot spot in use would see only half the pressure it does now. Thanks, ...

Hi Jay,

Thanks for the reminder! I wonder if this refers to Nishijin glass fibre? That's good looking material, offers little in the way of improved traction, though.

Very nice! How did you make the D shaped hole for the pivot bolt? That's were I'm stuck, I've had a dismantled Cricket waiting for a new scale for over a year now... And for the record: Yes, I too think G10 front piece would be perfect for a production Crickett as well. Being thin is beneficial for ...

I've spoken for more affordable mules before and I repeat it now. AEB-L would be very nice with a good heat treat ( http://www.bestexcompany.com/parks/knives/paper_from_journal.pdf )! It's not new, that's for sure, but would be an interesting reference in what you could achieve without high carbon a...

I too like VG-10 and would take it over CPM S30V any day. Actually, I kinda wonder how VG-10 seems to take such a nice edge and also hold the initial sharpness rather well considering it's supposed to have coarse carbide structure ( http://www.devinthomas.com/faq.cfm)? Maybe it's all in the heat tre...

Think I've said this before, but let me sing it once again, with feeling: There'd be 5mm more space even in the current handle for a longer blade. That, even if it sound very little, would already make the blade much pointier (= better). Now, if we were to tamper with the back spacer, we could have ...

I have a NIB Michael Walker that has a lock all the way over to the other side, almost touching handle scale. Would this be something that W&R would fix or should I consider this to be withing spesifications? Otherwise this is a very nice knife and would fill the role of a gentleman carry.

Yup, the good experience the Thomas Dynasty has had with AEB-L / 13C26 is what grabbed my interest in the first place. The composition of the steel is decidedly unsexy at first glance, but maybe the beauty would just be buried deeper? Now that Spyderco seems to have decided that the kitchen knives t...

I second AEB-L at high hardness. The idea of a humble but smart choise of elements is intriguing. I'm intrerested in high initial sharpness / edge stability and would like to test how well the famed small carbides accomplish this. Also, managing on a shoestring budget, it would be nice to have some ...

My ultrafines are ok but one of the fines has a bumpy corner. It has been there since new and you can feel it with your finger nail and the blade will stick there when sharpening. While annoying, I've resolved only to avoid that corner instead of sending the stone in for replacement - it is too expe...

Both stickiness and difficulties in operation should go away with repetitive use. To the stickiness, a little graphite and adjusting the pivot screw might also help.
