Couple things. The Vesuvius is the first Spydie that has been truly disappointing to me. But, can understand why others like it so well. Since I much prefer tip up, am concerned to learn it may not stay closed in that position. Thankfully, mine has the ability to choose. Roger at Bayou LaFourche alw...

Hi all. Been out of circulation for a long time. Not sure I'm really ready to try to get back into it. Read a few threads from a month ago, and a few from today, and this one. Can't help but ask if Sal's participation is at previous levels or different? Haven't come across a single one from him. Fin...

Sal -- I'm sure you're right to a large extent so far as manufactured blades and stock removal blades. I still believe that expert forging can indeed create a steel that will cut with 440V and yet sharpen very easily. Have spoken withe maker I mentioned earlier. He indicates he is too busy at presen...

Very heavy stuff indeed. Somehow this reminds me of the fact that for going on 35-36 years, have been considering getting a tattoo. While I was in Vietnam, I decided to do so. Strangely enough, it was a brief Latin phrase. Well, by the time I got home -- had found the phrase in a book I was reading ...

Might as well be either wrong -- or right -- twice in the same set of threads. At least if I'm wrong, the hooraws and laughter ought to impress the facts into my mind enough for my poor memory to hang onto. In a new/relatively new lockback, I don't think vertical bladeplay is at all good. Depending ...

You know, guys, most humans in the Western world are pretty much used to taking things for granted, and not experiencing or feeling any gratitude for the many blessings we have in our lives compared to the majority of citizens of the world. Now, I know that for some, a great deal of mental, and ofte...

Jeff, I may have this backwards, but don't think so. In the greater scope of lockbacks, I believe a tiny bit of side-to-side play can eventually be expected. Up and down play, particularly early in the knife's life is a more serious problem. If I'm totally bassackwards, would appreciate learning so....

Just to flesh out the question -- tho I do recall Sal saying around the first of next year for the appearance of the diamond sleeves -- will there be a completely new model containing both the two grades of ceramic and the diamond sleeves; and, will the sleeves be sold as a separate item, to enable ...

Pretty persuasive guys. Had I not just seen the pictures of the new models soon to be out -- or already out in the case of the Meerkat -- I might have thought about getting one. But, I have enough big knives, and am always carrying my Sebenza, and usually the Wegner or my CRKT Apache. It is possible...

Thanks for the pics, Chinook. Can you tell me about the similarities or differences between meerkats and mongooses? (mongeese?)

Looks like the meerkat might be a tad larger.

I've been a huge fan of mongooses ever since reading "Rikki Tikki Tavi" by Kipling. A great story!

That's a nice-looking knife, Chinook. Thanks for sharing it. How come I never see these knives with color anywhere. I see almost only black, or no occsionally grey knives. Had no idea they put out an inlaid-type Centofante. I've always thought the design of the Centofante was great for a gent's -- o...

What handle did you get your Native in, Caleb? Personally, I think the FRN model is perfect. You get an indestructible handle, with a good grip, and you get that fancy 440V steel. I think it is plainly a great knife. I suppose it is okay w/SS handles also, but I guess in my mental image of the Nativ...

Cursed with a truly lousy memory, I can't remember which Spyderco I actually received first. I do know that the decision to buy a Spyderco was based on Dennis Bible's posts on the Wegner. So, in my mind that was the first knife, though 1 or 2 others might have arrived first. Just can't remember. Stare

I know, I know. I already posted once. That was more to vote against a Military, than to propose another knife. So, in looking thru some -- not all -- the posts since mine, I sure hope that if another forum knife is done that it is something fairly mainstream. In my mind, that would certainly rule o...

Very interesting, Yog. Thanks for sharing your efforts. My lack of mechanical ability knows no bounds, so it isn't surprising to me that I'm puzzled by a couple things. In the second picture, where the blade is partially open, the lockbar/spacer, whatever it is, is pushed out from the line of the sc...

Thanks, Sword and Shield. It is a whittler. Appreciate that info. Gatekeeper. I expect I am going to buy one Benchmade in the near future. Will either get the 710, which I think is going to be one of the defining knives of the tactical folder group in history, or the Griptilian, and be a bit cheap a...

Welcome to the forum, brian12856@aol.com. I guess because hawkbills aren't particularly wonderful in my mind, I haven't paid much attention at all to them. For instance, I don't know the difference between the Merlin and the Harpy. Knife Center sells a plain-edged Merlin for $52, with an FRN handle....
