In my mind the question is a simple one. Make it as heavy as it needs to be (with the given materials) so that it will not fail in its intended task and no heavier. The knives used in the rope cutting competitions are a good example of this. They are without doubt a case of technology over mass. Ed ...

When it comes to big Bowie type knives Jim, of course, likes his Crossada, and with good reason when you see him use it. In more typical Bowie fashion I know that he really likes what Rob Patton is making as well. Rob is a Bowie instructor in Jim's program and he really has a bead on what a fighting...

Wow, wow, wow. It was the trip of a lifetime to be sure (until next year). Bram was well received everywhere we went. The Israelis were very attentive. They truly believed that what they were learning might one day save their, or a loved one's, life. All types of people showed up for the Commandment...

I have heard about the custom of not closing a folder when handing it back. This came from a friend from Texas and my impression was that it is commonly observed down there.

That's curious. Back in May I had an order of Gunting's filled with Chinooks too, but they were in Chinook boxes. Aren't enough Guntings I guess.

I would not clasify the Gunting as a "specialized" blade. It can do special things, but it requires no more special skills to employ as a simple edged weapon then any other knife. As a bonus it is more positeve to open one handed then about anything I have handled; just thumb open the ramp...

Amen brother!!! I confirm what Bram has just said. Having just spent the weekend with JAK I can tell you that not one live blade was used during the entire three days. It may seem "tough" or real or some other thing to train with live steel but it's about as smart as riding a motorcycle wi...

I do not intend to "pile on" here but I think that this is a dangerous idea which needs to be clearly refuted by weight of many voices. I was an LE DT and firearms instructor during the advent of OC-10. I heard rave revues about it effectiveness. It was hailed as a solution to nearly all u...

Guntingless in Seattle

Ok, it's not really Seattle, but when people hear Washington they think Seattle. Anyway, what's up with the Gunting? I work for a large gun range and we sell a lot of knives but no Guntings for the last three weeks. Why? I can't get my hands on them!!!!! I've got people lined up waiting to but them ...

If your skills were up to the task it would work very well indeed. Obviously it would not work effectively at point, but in cutting it would do fine. I would probably concentrate on making cuts to the weapon arm ala cut and pass style. It would also make very effective draw cuts. I would stay away f...

I'll chime in on this one too, although it will mostly be a repeat of what has already been posted. Many years ago when I struggled with creating a force continuum for my department and then instructed it, I was always frustrated by the lack of overlap in tools and techniques. One of the very first ...
