Re: Spyderco's Designated "Beaters"

My PM2 does hard work and is remarkably useful for duck hunting and processing. But my go to beaters are my frn Cara Cara 2 and G10 Crossbill.

Re: Cara cara sized hawkbill?

One of my first Byrd knives was a stainless Crossbill. Is that what you're describing? https://www.amazon.com/Byrd-Crossbill-Stainless-Plain-Knife-x/dp/B001AXFVSM Yes, but no. Yes to FRN or G10, no to 5,5 oz of stainless. Also, if I'll allow myself to be picky and subjective I think the CC2 just lo...

Re: Snapping clip screws

Thanks, Sal. It probably was a user error. The point on cross threading makes sense. I’m just annoyed I did it twice. The good news is that my last screw worked and the new clip had additional screws. So it’s fine now—once I finally found that little detent ball on my floor and figured out where it ...

Snapping clip screws

I’m clearly doing something wrong, but I don’t know what. I picked up an mxgear deep carry clip for my smock and swapped out the stock clip. I’ve moved 20+ clips in the past because I’m a lefty, and I’ve never had a problem. I reused the stock spyderco screws, and while I was attaching the clip, the...

Re: Why was the G10 Crossbill discontinued?

My G10 full serrated crossbill is hands down the best box knife I've ever had. And it sharpens up really easily afterward. Wish I'd bought a handful way back when.

Re: Spydercos best "bang-for-the-buck" - knife?!

Byrd Crossbill G10 full serrated. Got that sucker for $30 a bunch of years ago and wish I'd bought 10. I've got the usual suspects in the spyderco line and usually EDC a PM2 or Sage 5, but that Crossbill is hands down the best cardboard knife I've ever seen. My Pacific Salt SE is okay on cardboard, ...

Re: The Iconic Spyderco Hole Question

My Sage 5 is my first with a too-sharp spyderhole. A couple minutes with the medium and fine sharpmaker rods did the trick, but I did slip and make a scratch down the side of the blade with the fine rod. Probably wouldn't notice it if I weren't looking for it, but it'll probably drive me a little nu...

Spyderco has helped me always have tools available and has triggered a near obsession with sharpening.

I'm with you with regard to the Robin. That's a sweet little knife--for the price, utility, and overall quality, I don't know that there's a better deal. I've picked up a handful of Byrds and liked them a lot. However, I've picked up a few Spyderco knives and liked them a whole lot. Apples to apples...

Are these knives like this when you receive them or after you have used them for a while? If they have been sharpened what are you sharpening them with? Some or my hand tools have become magnatized over time with certain metal to metal contact. Not sure how it happens but it does. It's something I ...

I've noticed that several of my Spyderco/byrd knives came magnetized. I can pick up paper clips with my Delica, my Robin, and my VG10 Caly3. It's actually kind of handy--I've rescued a few dropped screws from deep in my computer with the tip of a blade.

I've tried balancing diamond stones against my sharpmaker, but the wobble was pretty difficult to deal with. I used rubber bands, tried bracing with the opposite hand. It worked, but I also had several very near misses with slipped off blades. I realized I'd probably lose a finger or two if I kept g...
