Well on my ATS34 version the bevel for the serrations is narrower. And the bevel is not ground as steep as the CPM440V version. So technically the pattern is the same just how it was done was different. In another thread, Carlos said the change was made to prevent chipping with the harder steel. Tha...

Serration change in Military
I have an old style engraved Military in ATS34 with groved finger choil, and a newer model in CPM 440V. Both are fully serrated but the serration patterns are different. The older one has a smaller pattern, while the newer one has a larger pattern and a steeper bevel. I was just curious as to why th...

Why the Military ROCKS: 1. Flat grind, most other manf. don't even have one in their whole line. 2.Honking big handle, that does not feel big or heavy in your pocket. 3. Large Spyderhole, this in combination with handle allows you to open it with gloves on. I wish ALL my Sydies had this size hole, y...

Mr. Janich, from what you wrote above, it seems that reverse grip is harder to block. Is it also harder to disarm, once you have passed or grabbed a limb? Also I was told by my FMA instructor that forward grip is best for offense and long range. Reverse grip is best for close range and defense. Whic...

I would like to add one more advantage to the revese grip. If your opponet should some how get your back or he has an accomplince who tries too. You can still strike effectively, as shown in the first knife fight scene in the movie Exposure. Which was choreographed by one of Dan Insanto's student's ...

Opening folders in self defense scenario
I would like to hear some opinions on opening a manual folder in a general self defense type situation, using either a hawbill or a conventional blade, sorry no Gunting openings. Also would apreciate opinions as to concealed openings and the theory of "never let them see it only feel it". ...

Just thought I would throw in my 2cents, the Ayoob is overall a superior design for MBC purposes. On minus side, still not found of the Almite coating, when trying to draw it quickly I have trouble keeeping it under control. The handle could be slightly thicker, plus the while the deep carry of the ...

suggestions for large Harpy/Merlin
To the powers that be at Spyderco, some suggetions for the large Harpy/Merlin that hopefully might become a reality someday. Debut the Cobra Hood opener on this model, as it might attract more people to buy it. Which might convert more people to this blade style, which I think some have a bias again...
