Spyderco spotted in Ukraine, but which one?
https://twitter.com/clashreport/status/1630934221068836866?s=20 That's a video making the rounds of two Ukrainian soldiers showing how their body armor stopped a shell. The second one sure looks like he's got a spyderco attached to the front of his chest, but I can't quite tell which one. Maybe a Mi...

I actually got my first-ever spyderco knife from NGK almost 20 years ago... Haven't bought much of the new models lately, but it would be nice to land one of these, from them!

Re: Are acid washed knives safe for food prep?
Short version: an aqueous solution of Ferric Chloride creates an environment in which the components of the steel can be oxidized. The results are Oxide layers of various thickness, therefore the different colors. The Oxide layers of "stainless steel" consist of a thin (only a few atomic ...

Are acid washed knives safe for food prep?
I was thinking about doing either a vinegar or ferric chloride acid wash on my cpm m4 mule to prevent uncontrolled corrosion, and making it basically a permanent kitchen knife, but it got me wondering about the safety of the coating left on the blade. Does anyone know what, chemically speaking, that...

Re: Spyderco Swap!
I don't know much about Reddit, so please help me understand. In your math scenario, your knife is worth 250, so you have to sell it for 260. Where does the other ten bucks go? Presumably, that's to account for the cost of actually shipping the knife to the recipient, no? @Vivi - this is an awesome...

Re: The negative blade angle wharncliffe that I wish existed
Super genius, thank you. The first lock position would be a negative angle and then just keep your finger in the spidie hole and unlock the compression lock with your index finger to release and re lock to the second position is my initial thinking. The trouble would be that the compression lock ne...

Re: The negative blade angle wharncliffe that I wish existed
Well I just mentally patented the Duelock (see what I did there?) It has two locking positions. It could be any two angles but for this one, a negative angle and an in line position. There are a few ways to skin this cat of a lock system but I am working on what way/s would work best. That would be...

Re: The negative blade angle wharncliffe that I wish existed
That’s a great question and I’m glad that I can provide an answer to it! :D Paleontologists can create 3D models of the brain inferred from the bones forming what is called the “braincase” (scientifically known as an endocast). ... "experience submitting the design" - Thank you for answer...

Re: The negative blade angle wharncliffe that I wish existed
The comparison in use case to box cutters is definitely apt, but those tend to be bulky, with poor materials and poor tolerances that leave the blades wiggling around (not to mention the lack of blade length!). I want something with some quality to it that I can use and rely on when precision matters.

Whoa, this blew up overnight more than I expected! Glad you all are enjoying the design and ideas! I'll try to respond to a few common thoughts here: "Pterodactyl" - hahah, yes! The resemblance had hit me, too! I wonder what the evolutionary advantage was for those creatures developing a &...

Re: The negative blade angle wharncliffe that I wish existed
I really dont have any needs for this kind of knife, but I truly love your input and all desing are research that you have done. It is a very purpose build knife, but I have no problems with that and to be honest, it looks very polished. Do you have any plans to make an actual prototype? Thanks for...

The negative blade angle wharncliffe that I wish existed
So, first off, these details come from a knife design I submitted to Spyderco, and which they rejected with a very appreciative note. No sour grapes at all, and I'm glad they took the time to review it. That said, I'm really not going to do anything else with this, and so I'd rather get the ideas ou...

Re: Time for New, More Advanced Spyderco Pocket Clips
I'd like to see some texturing on the insides of clips designed for models with stainless steel or Ti handles. It's not necessary for models with grippier scales, but when you've got smooth metal on both sides of the pocket fabric, you lose a lot of retention. Could be accomplished as simply as doin...
