This is a very interesting subject. I echo Marc's thoughts regarding the likeminded thinking often found on the forums. BTW, I have a SS Harpy and have found that the drying vent cut into the handle actually facilitates a better grip on it! And 1MT, I prefer a heavier knife myself, so I like a SS ...

Slowly and carefully use the FLAT side to restore the tip! You may wish to start with the medium grade stone to get the initial point reshaped, then switch to the fine grade flats to bring that point out SHARP! Be prepared to stop and rest if your hand gets tired because you may do more harm than ...

Now I'm NOT disillusioned anymore about my CPM440V Native!

Well, I took everyone's advice and persevered in sharpening my Native. After more careful work and patience I finally managed to hone a satisfactory edge on it. And, I managed to restore the tip to a sharp point after blunting it in my ealier attemps at re-sharpening with the C-204.

Hey Buck! Welcome to the forum. I myself own a ss Harpy and absolutely LOVE it! However you must remember both the Harpy and Civilian are designed with specific purposes in mind. The Harpy's blade design was intended primarily for heavy duty pulling cuts, hence the curved "talon" shape and deep ...

Also JohnE, the Merlin blade is 2.5mm width whereas the Harpy blade is 3mm thick. Just FYI

I recently got a new ss Harpy and I love it. It has a solid feel to it and the blade is incredibly sharp and strong. Of course it's curved blade design limits it's usefulness in some applications but if you're looking for a handsome knife with lots of cutting power you cant go wrong with the Harpy.

Now I'm Disillusioned with my CPM440V Native...

Well, I'm a bit troubled with my inability to affect a sharp edge on my Native. It's a P/S blade and the serrated edge is fine but the 35% plain edge at the tip is impossible to get as sharp as when I got it new. I tried back beveling to 30 degrees and then a full steps 1-4 at 40 degrees on the ...

I just got my FRN Native yesterday and confess that I am quite pleased with it. The CPM440V Plain/Serrated blade seems very strong and with my Sharpmaker I was able to put a razor edge on it. I have to get more accustomed with it's lt.wt.handle since I'm used to carrying the ss Harpy. The clip on ...

I only have 2 spydies right now, a ss Harpy and a frn Native. I have to say my fav. is the Harpy. I like it's heavier weight and the radical blade shape and deeply serrated edge (which is un-earthly sharp) causes a lot of WOWs'! When I pull it out to show folks.

Couple of ? from a new Spyderco fan.

1. First let me comment that this is a very good forum from what I've been reading on it. Also, the members here are exceedingly cordial and informative you all have my compliments.

My first question is: I recently purchased my first Spyderco (won't be my last), a Harpy. I plan on purchasing a ...

I vote for a belt pouch for my Spyderco. I am a brand-new Spyderco owner (Man, what a knife!)
Let me put it this way. The first day I had my spydie and realized what an awesomely well-made piece of art it was my first desire was to find a carry pouch for it for fear I would accidentally loose it ...

I read the book back when it was published in '99 (what a wild ride!) Dr. Lecter used the Harpy with great effectiveness throughout the book. However the movie failed to focus on the knife as keenly as the book did. FYI in the book neither the Harpy nor Civilian was ever used for "skinning". In the ...
