More searching shows it closer to 440B. It is coming from china. So do you want the melamine as a side dish or mixed in? It should be "tougher" than the current Byrd steel. That is a good thing.

A little bit of google shows that it is used in china for bearings where a high corrosion resistance is required. And it is "equivalent" to 440C in the USA and Japan. So this is what china was supposed to use in the Byrd line originally. Again this was a little bit of searching.

It looks like you reused the original black washer from the pin job on the left side. Details please. Did you have to enlarge the hole in the blade?

I agree that the "D" "bolt/pin" works well. Make them all screw construction. I should have said that the "D" bolt works well with FRN and thin SS liners. This is because the D can be part of the FRN mold and it can be stamped fairly cleanly in thin SS liners. You can'...

Hi Tap, On the "functionality doctrine" we were able to trademark a round opening hole as opposed to other shaped opening holes, all of which are functional. Much like the shape of an automobile grill; Dodge has a "cross" in a square hole, Volvo has a diagnal line, Jeep has vert...

The round hole evolved from a depression. The depression evolved from a "Nail Nick". Nobody gives credit to the inventer of the "Nail Nick" probably because the inventer is unknown. I was using the nail nick to help grip the blade for drop openings back in the early 1970's. The r...

ZDP-189 does NOT bend. It does not burr in the traditional (floppy edge) knife sense. It may feel like a burr and it may look like a burr until you look at it with some magnification. You will see that the "burr" is already broken /fractured at the base along way from the edge. When reprof...

So, in this case, if a brown handled knife with a full flat grind sells better than a black one with a flat saber grind, there will still be the question of why. Did people buy the color in spite of the grind, or perhaps the grind in spite of the color? That is the point that I was trying to make. ...

If you were to introduce 3 or 4 new colors without changing the grind sales would increase. The same thing would happen with a grind change. Some people will continue to buy the old colors simply because of the colors. You will not be able to interpret any meaningful results from this test because y...

I'm betting the maker is the same one doing the Tenacious, which does come in serrated. Besides, Spyderco's normal response to a problem with making serrations would be to educate the maker's staff. So, perhaps a more likely answer would be that the general market for these knives disagrees with yo...

plain edge only. sal From EDGE-U-CATION, Why does Spyderco manufacture Spyderedge (serrated) blades? Is this shop destroying too many blades trying to put serrations on? You can't make a serious work knife without serrations. Anywhere from 40 to 75% would make me very happy. I'll put them on myself...

I suspect that H1 would work harden by "steeling" or polishing the edge. I doubt that removing metal with a coarse stone is going to work harden it. I'm going to take a sugar pill and strop my knives on my jeans. I only have H1 in a serrated blade. It would be pretty easy to take two plain...

They are ALL available with a PE somewhere. So you just need to tell us what you want as far as size, handle material, lock/less/type, choil/less, screws/pins, clip position/type, steel, price and sometimes color. It will be fairly easy from there.
