Spyderco's knife sharpening/maintenance service.... and Dragonfly question

I have a question about sending in a knife to Spyderco for their sharpening/maintenance service. There are a few knives that I have been interested in, but avoided since they were not screw construction, but pinned. For example, the FRN Dragonfly.

I am really not concerned about the pins holding ...

Ladybug blade play....

Do many people here find their FRN Ladybugs have a fair amount of side to side play? I've only had mine for a month, and the most strenuous cutting task it has seen was cutting a few pieces of twine, yet there seems to be a lot of side to side play.

It had a little bit to begin with, and the few ...

Everyone seems to forget the lost art of picking up a phone and calling. Come on guys....really not that difficult :D

Their phone is 303-948-5561.

I guess I just don't appreciate the art of paying for an international phone call during the daytime premium hours, and then being put on hold while ...

I have emailed them 3 times asking if they had a certain knife in stock which is listed on their webiste. Not one reply.

That was a few weeks ago.

Thanks for the great pics Deacon and SmoothOne!

I agree on the lock issue. I would also choose a locking folder over a slipjoint. I think the Stretch is winning for me so far. It's $20 cheaper, the scales are FRN which I LOVE, it's a lock back, and something about the handle just looks like it ...

Comparison & Pic request: UKPK Drop Point + Stretch II

I would like to pick up a drop point blade in either the Stretch II or UKPK Drop Point. Would someone be willing to post a side by side, or rather... top and bottom, picture comparing these two knives?

For those who have handled both... what differences stood out for you? Aside from the obvious ...

Wow.... seriously? Etched right into the blade and no indication of this in the item description? If that's true... how ultra tacky. I would have demanded a full refund and returned it. A prime example of free advertising at it's absolute worst.

Ah ok cool. I see what you mean. I also didn't know that there was a layer of resin on the outide of the G-10, which is what's textured, that's good to know.

The Deacon wrote:It will abrade much more easily than G-10, micarta, and carbon fiber.
I thought it was the opposite. I have seen pictures of worn down G-10, where the texture has been dulled, but everyone says their FRN handles still look like brand new.

Man you have to stop apologizing lol You are doing me a big favour by taking these pics.

Looks like the Urban leaf blade's tip is still nicely hidden which is a big plus.... AND it also appears that the drop point UKPK blade tip rides lower between the scales than it's leaf blade counterpart. That ...

I understand what you are saying mwebb. I was kind of bummed when I discovered this about the UKPK, as I was set to buy all 3 versions of it (FG leaf, FG drop, OR leaf). But since it is such an expensive knife for me, that little quirk will always bug me. It will take away from my enjoyment of the ...

Thanks for the info so far guys.

While we're on the topic of saber grind.... I see that the Navigator II has a saber ground blade. Is the Nav II considered a good slicer since the saber grind is quite high on the blade?

Would one be disappointed in the performance of a flat saber grind if they were accustomed to using FFG, for EDC purposes... like cutting cardboard, etc?

Delica: flat saber grind vs. hollow grind

Anyone have any input when it comes to comparing the cutting abilities of a flat saber grind to a hollow grind on a Delica? I noticed that for the SS Delica, the description says hollow ground... whereas the rest of the Delicas are labelled as flat saber ground.

What the the advantages and ...

Well...... if you're offering and you're bored lol

SaturNyne is exactly right about me forgetting that I wasn't comparing similar blade styles (thanks for that SN! I can't believe I didn't catch that). I knew the Wharnie would be good to go, but for some reason I forgot that the orange Urban is not ...

Thanks SmoothOne! The pics are much appreciated and showed me exactly what I was looking for.

Wow... huge difference in the position of the tip on the Urban. It's tip rides nice and deep in between the scales in comparison to the UKPK.

Funny that I had completely written off the Urban previously ...

I was holding off on my first Delica with hopes of an orange FFG, that's too bad. I can't believe it didn't make the cut.

Ah well, looks like my first one will be black. Funny how radically different people's tastes can be. I find the new colours absolutely repugnant LOL :D ;) To each their own of ...

LeftHandPath... unfortunately I do not trust my skills enough to alter such an expensive knife. The thought of taking a dremel to it makes me feel faint lol Funny you should mention the dragonfly as it is tied for the top position on my 'To Buy' list right now. It's the G-10 version I'm after.
