Re: Unpopular opinions

Don't worry about your opinions being unpopular. Gotta be you. My opinion that blades are too thick, edges are too thick, and price/performance is too high is not shared by the vast majority of spydie buyers or designers. So I left for greener pastures. Which I found. I swing by here every six month...

Re: New Mules coming?

Meh, it doesn't really change the narrative. It doesn't change it, no. And dismiss my comments all you want, but it's still wrong. He exaggerates to support that narrative. Two Mules out of 27 sell out quickly. Quickly being days. How does that get distorted to nearly all selling out in minutes? He...

Re: New Mules coming?

I didn't make the claim that they sold out in minutes, but the K390 mule sold out very fast, even you were surprised. Skidoosh may have exaggerated a bit in his post, but ppl were upset about it, complained, and blamed flippers (rightly or wrongly). Yes, K390 sold out quickly. In days, not minutes....

Re: New Mules coming?

Again, I'm not sure what you're disputing. I get that. I'll try one more time. ... they sold out quickly (minutes) ... The complaints went through and they increased the numbers ... If you can show me actual support for the above being true, I'd like to see it. I'd even admit I'm wrong. I was follo...

Re: New Mules coming?

I'm not sure what you're disputing, a 20 page thread about the "flipping problem" isn't complaining? I'm not sure if Spyderco increased run sizes or not, but they certainly appear have begun releasing Mules more frequently some time after that discussion. Where in my post did I mention fl...

It is easy to check. I don't think it's revisionist history. Mule Team flipping
Not the flipping, but the complaining and the increased run size.

Edited to add: I guess I did say that in my post. Maybe it needs the repetition ...

Re: New Mules coming?

... they sold out quickly (minutes)... No. Try weeks, not minutes. Months for most of them. One Mule sold out in a day or two and that was because it got released at the same time as a popular PM2 and lots of folks buying those added a Mule on for fun. That surprised everyone. The complaints went t...

Re: New Mules coming?

I used to buy quite a few Mules and stopped a while ago, so I can offer my personal take. First of all, I'm not obsessive enough to drive most of these steels to their limits and really see the differences. Second, I have more than enough for general use. Third, as I've used the Mules over the years...

Here ya go. I guess take it up with Spyderco, maybe they don't know what they're talking about
That's correct. They don't. False advertising pisses me off. This is pointless. I'm bowing out again. Back in another six months or so ... maybe

Re: Sal, why is the Delica grinded so thick behind the edge ?

Well case in point, it WAS a full zero grind originally but too many complaints about chipping and edge fractures led them to giving it a small bevel. It is still near a zero grind, it's just thicker behind the edge than you expected because the blade stock is so thick and the blade height is so lo...

Re: Sal, why is the Delica grinded so thick behind the edge ?

Obviously it was an example. It has 5mm thick blade stock and is a near zero grind. I'm pretty sure you get the point I was trying to make. I get that your point is that Spyderco doesn't grind anything thin because of warantee costs. Yes, I do know that there are companies who do even worse. I don'...

Re: Sal, why is the Delica grinded so thick behind the edge ?

... If Spyderco made everything like the Nilakka they'd get branded as a fragile knife company that can't survive "real world use"... Except my Nilakka is quite thick behind the edge. Once I went to my usual 10dps, I got a huge bevel. It really pissed me off. Another @!#$% folding crowbar...

Re: Permanent Mule Team?

Spyderco did make a Woodcraft Mule in S30V with a different knife design and it was pretty much what you're asking for, a normal steel with add-your-own handles. It didn't sell too well, I believe, as it didn't last very long in the lineup. It was made exclusively for woodcraft.com, so that might h...

Re: If you could build your ideal Spyderco....

Since we're dreaming, I'd like a slipjoint with both a wharncliffe and a drop point around 3.25" long in M4. 2mm or less, zero ground, red micarta scales. Brass bolsters, nail nicks, no holes.

Re: Best Spyderco value

If we're sticking to Spyderco and not Byrd, I'd say Centofante 3, but that's because I don't much like the Delica/Endura/Salt and the C3 has a nice thin blade with a decent tip and a handle that works for any hand. If you are actually poor, look elsewhere, for $10 you can get a better knife than any...

Re: Crazy deals @ Sierra and other places

Maybe there should be a massdrop thread. Or maybe a below MAP thread. I read a blog post the other day about ways around MAP, written by a knife retailer who doesn't like it. Free shipping was one. Member pricing was another.

Re: Thickness behind the edge?

I like the idea of putting a consistent bevel on and looking at the width. I do a 10dps primary on everything. My Nilakka turned out to be quite thick behind the edge, a huge disappointment, so it's entirely possible to get a lemon, no matter the reputation.
